This chat has been a sanity saver I was getting so stressed it appears the social worker was wrong I had to speak to DWP today re change of bank details and I asked them the question and it is as all these kind people have said benefits are unaffected but I guess there will be change of address that will flag up so hopefully it will be a smooth transition to UC the benefit may change but the amount will be the same... So thank you all it's hard enough doing this times gone so quickly and we find ourselves old all of a sudden I'm 🙏🙏🤞🤞that he loves it I'm sure he will....

Watch out if they move you to UC. The process includes a two-week gap in Housing Benefit. This can lead to rent arrears. My friend went through this and was told too late that they should have applied for a discretionary grant from the local authority but couldn’t do so after the event because they didn’t have the correct bits of paper evidence. So they ended up paying it back bit by bit over months.

my daughter had to swap to UC when her circumstances changed. It took a while but it was otherwise fine. Don’t listen to the scare stories. These are people who care and want to help.
