Hi. My son has a diagnosis of Adhd, Asd & global development delay. His paediatrician has told me that now my son is a teenager the global development delay diagnosis is not suitable '& he would like a diagnosis of intellectual learning disability but the paediatrician my son is under is not able to provide this diagnosis due to the methods used . I have researched where can provide a diagnosis & it all seems to be private rather than NHS. Can anyone offer me some advice. Thank you

Advice on diagnosis

Hello eastwoo88 and welcome to forum which you will find answers for everything related to learning disabilities and others., Possibly too simple a question but why do you need a diagnosis?
If your son is a teenager he will have been schooled either in a special school or a normal school and the teachers will have done an assessment of his needs? Are you receiving any benefits such as either DLA or PIP? My son is 37 years old and we went through the system and he has a severe learning disabilities. He had global developmental delay which is a really "crappy" diagnosis because it makes you feel that the delay bit will catch up and as you will have found out it doesnt!
The diagnosis you are looking for suggests a learning disability and either mild, medium or severe and this will show whether your son would need support in the workplace or not or whether he is able to work at all and would need a dycare setting however you both would benefit from help through a social worker? My son left school and went to college but only because everybody can go to college with supported needs, He cannot work because of his inability to read or write. He can navigate the sky controls even though he cannot read!?He has poor hand eve coordination so we have to cut up his food shave wash and brush his teeth. He lives at home and we have a motability car.I can tell you so much if you need me to but what will a diagnosis do for you both. Will your GP be able to help?Look through the forum and I look forward to seeing you again.🙂
I believe he would need to be assessed by a Psychologist specialising in intellectual disability. They would do a IQ assessment depending on his level of disability.
