One to One Support at Night

My son has 100 percent continuing health care and is considering supported living placement and needs one to one support day and night and two to one in the community. We have been told now that he will have one to one support in the day in the supported living placement,a number of hours in the community for two to one support but only waking night staff at night not one to one support and this will be one member of staff to n4 residents including my son.

I obviously have concerns about this as he has 24/7 at home by myself which they are aware of and two to one community support by a Care company. I have told them of my concerns and that he needs one to one support at night but have said he has not been assessed for one to one support at night and that is the reason he will have waking night staff.

Another concern is that flat they have chosen is a basement flat underneath the other supported living flats and that means it is separated directly from where the one waking night staff will be as the staff member will be in the main building in a room next to where the other residents will be.

He will be given other methods of communication to get in touch with the night staff, but I have told them my concerns about this and he has told thalso as he has difficulties with communication. He has also told them he is not happy being on his own at night and that he wants one to one support. I know this is a commissioning issue as well as I have been previously told that NHS continuing health care find it costly to fund 24/7 care, but my son's needs come first so I am very worried about this. My son initially asked for a residential placement with upto two other residents at most as he struggles with living with more than that amount of people, he did not want to live on his own, but this placement could not be found we were told and only one other residential placement that was found and was offered to him had 12 other residents, so it did not meet his needs and was over 40 miles from where we live, he does not want to live to far from family. Even though this option was not my son's first choice, it is the next best option.

Does anyone have experience of this situation or advice on what to do about our concerns of the night support. Thank you.
