My daughter's disability Freedom Pass recently expired and when I re applied for a new one the local authority had not recognition of her on the disability register for the borough. How do I add her onto the register so that i can apply for her freedom pass again.

Disability Freedom Pass
what’s the pass your talking about as never heard of it but your GP can add your daughter to the register.
I have had the same problem . I applied for a disability freedom pass and first they said he wasn’t on the register then they said it was only moderate learning difficulty . Any excuse they can use to avoid giving you the pass is going around . He’s always been in the GP’s disability register but that is not the same as the LA disability register . You have to phone up and email the disability team . In the end they sent me a form to be completed by my GP who made an error and so it’s being corrected back and forth . Yet I am over 60 no disability and obtained my 60+ Oyster card in one week . Why is this country so slow to recognise and respect people with disabilities ?? They are treated worse than women , working classes and black people .
Hi Bfranklinuk , thanks for your question.
This does sound odd - I've never heard of a disability register being used for a Freedom Pass application. I know some London boroughs have a voluntary register where parents can place their child's details to get updates on services, etc.
I'd give our helpline a call on 0808 808 1111 or email helpline@mencap.org.uk as our trained advisers may have more up to date information on what i required for a Freedom pass renewal.
As others have mentioned, there is a Learning Disability Register that GPs use to provide reasonable adjustments and other benefits for patients with a learning disability, but I don't believe the council can use that for the Freedom Pass. There's more information about the GP Learning Disability Register online here: mencap.org.uk/advice-and-su...
Hope that helps.
