Hello,

I went to my doctors, and asked if I was on the disability register, before I had sat down he was huffing puffing and he said, it’s silly because the test was for 5 year olds, how wouldn’t you know at your age? I said well, “I got to this age, without knowing I was autistic “he came across aggressive and intimidating, kept asking why I was wearing sunglasses? I replied it’s to bright, and he made me cry. The worst part was was when he said you didn’t have disabilities. And I replied actually I do, Mine are invisible disabilities, to which he replied that’s not a disability, and that’s not what his computer meant!

I’m sorry but what an arrogant ignorant doctor he is. If your able to I would write a letter of formal complaint to the practice manager at that surgery if not ask someone to help you and tell them who you had the appointment with which doctor and then tell them what he said and how this made you feel. I would also ask them to tell you if you are or aren’t on the disibility register and if you’re not could they ensure you are placed on it please. I would also offer yourself up if you feel you could to go and talk to the doctors about what it’s like to navigate the world with Autism and how doctors could and should be more understanding to those who find the world challenging and how doctors surgeries could help ease the anxieties you experience when visiting their surgery.

just to add to what Jofisher said could you possibly take someone with you next time you go to doctors for support? the way this doctor spoke to you is so unprofessional sorry you experienced this.
