I am from south asia and my son has symptoms of autism and ADHD . He is on waiting list and this list is very long. We have just moved in this countty so struggling with basic systems here.

My first query is how to get the diagnosis and second is as we cant access public funds so what are support options for him in the near future.

Hi Ilovemyso , can you let us know where you have moved to in the UK please? That way others might be able to give you some ideas of where to start.

The National Autistic Society have some information about diagnosis for parents and carers which might be helpful - you can find it here: autism.org.uk/advice-and-gu...

To get a diagnosis he will need to be assessed. Have you spoken to your GP Or health visitor? They will make the referrals for assessments. The waiting lists are very long.

In the meantime you can start the EHCP (education, health and care plan) process, this a document outlining his needs that will be needed to make sure he gets the correct support at school when he starts. You don’t need a diagnosis for this and you can apply yourself . Have a look at the IPSEA website. It has all the information you’ll need. You can apply for DLA (disability living allowance) for him also. Again it’s not an easy or quick process but worth doing.

I’m sorry I’ve no idea on the public funds. Maybe citizens advice can help with that.
