help no where to turn.

at the beginning about a year ago the cldt start working with me because of personify disorder and LD. Now I go for meeting with psychologist for capacity assessment for appointee because I thought having an appointee will help with getting benefits as I had loads of trouble getting benefits in the past. Anyway I had IQ test done by psychologist not capacity assessment and they’ve now concluded I have an IQ of 83 and the cldt have written to me saying their going to refer me to MH services as I don’t meet their criteria! What does this mean? They say MH will meet my needs better for my BPD, I feel devastated and abandoned. I hate MH services and I had gone a long time when I needed support from them in the past saying I need to take more responsibility for my MH. Will the CLDT community nurse he was nice and the CLDT were fantastic. How do I get abother IQ test done and what score do I need to stay with the CLDT? It it too late now even for another IQ test? I feel devastated.

Hi parasiticworm , sorry to hear about your situation, it sounds like a stressful time for you. You could try giving our Learning Disability Helpline a call on 0808 808 1111 or email helpline@mencap.org.uk if you prefer. Our trained advisers may be able to give you some advice about appealing the decision or getting a capacity assessment.

Do you get any support from anywhere right now? Or was the capacity assessment the first step for that?

thank you Maurice_Mencap currently no help with day to day support, just LD community nurse but this is going to stop and I’ll be back straight at square one with the CMHT who are rubbish and of no help. My last worker said I need to take more responsibility for my MH! I was statemented at school but apparently my IQ is too high for LD services where I think they meet my needs better and also get me more benefits having a LD and they will help with forms etc. I also want direct payments to have support during the day. I hear this is hard to get under MH services? I have BPD (EUPD)

Well maybe you could ask those who say you don't now meet their criteria, why and ask for a fuller explanation. Hope you can get help. There's so many services out there who say they help people and when it comes to the crunch they pass you onto someone else. Good luck and sorry I can't help.
