Is it possible to be a Deputy (COP) for someone, but assign the Appointeeship to a separate organisation, not the local council, but to someone like Age UK?
We very much want to have Deputyship as parents, and have some influence in any future financial decisions for our son, but currently anything to do with money or budgeting causes tension and stress on our relationship with our son.
So, we would like to use an an external organisation just as an appointee, whilst we retain Deputyship. Is this possible? Does anyone have experience of this?
Thank you for any replies.

I would ring the office of public guardian and ask this question. I’m a deputy for my son but he lacks mental capacity. Does your son lack mental capacity? I am his deputy for property and finance and health and well-being.
We are applying for LPA for Health and Welfare as it is agreed with his doctor that my son has capacity for that, but he does not for Finance so in this area we would need deputyship
Has your son had a capacity test to confirm he lacks capacity for finance. I know as a parent we know this but no one believed me even though it's obvious. My son is 48 and just had a capacity test for finance last year proving he doesn’t have capacity. I believe to get deputyship you need proof he lacks capacity, ie capacity test.
yes that’s correct but speak to the mencap helpline as they will be able to guide you better. Good luck it’s not easy for us as parents having a child or adult that’s different life can be very challenging for us all.
Yes, we do have confirmation from the doctor that my son does not have capacity for financial matters, but does for Health and Welfare. So will apply for Deputyship for Finance and LPA for H + W. We just need to see if it is possible to find an organisation that provides appointeeship. I will reach out to Mencap, that is a good idea, and hopefully they will be able to provide some guidance. Thank you for taking the time to come back to me.
