I’m at my wits end! My 15 year old son has a ‘mild’ learning disability. He lies constantly, like it’s an impulsive response to any question. It causes so many arguments and so much stress in the family. My question is, is this normal for people with a LD is there another medical condition this could be?
He also seems to be regressing in many ways, such as hygiene, babyish comments etc. Again, is this normal?
Thanks in advance!

Have a look at confabulation, which is when things are made up due to memory loss. healthline.com/health/confa... and see if it could be this. My grandson has Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and will fill in the gaps in this way. I don’t argue, so a simple example would be when he says he’s cleaned his teeth and I know he hasn’t, I’d just ask him nicely to go and clean them again and check he does. It can be very frustrating but I know it’s not his fault.
This is very interesting, I'd never heard of this. Thanks for posting. My son also seems to fantasise at times when answering questions and appears to really believe what he is saying. I will investigate further.
Hi my daughter used to do this when she was younger , a lot. She had a late diagnosis of ADHD at the age of 24 ( something I’d always suspected) the lying has stopped now thankfully
