Day care Question

Hi, can anyone tell me if their Adult LD children attends daycare facilities. , if so are they still closing when someone phones in to say they have tested positive for covid ? This is happening every week at my sons daycare its like we are in lockdown again which was very distressing to us both having no support for nearly 2 years, it nearly broke me , it seems staff have no empathy , especially 2 women that seem to find it funny when they call with the news and when I see them at tge centre they are always wondering around the building or the office chatting, they are carers not office staff , the manager covers 2 other centres run by the same company out of our area , They seem happy to call to say the centre is not excepting service users in due to a phone call from someone who has tested positive even though this person hasnt been for a few days ? They get paid a very high payment direct from social services for my son who has one to one support wether he is in or not . They were also payed for the 2 years he couldnt attend, they said it was inorder to stay open when things went back to normal , ? No one at SS seems to care about the service user and wont offer any alternative as it means changing his care package and I would have to find his support myself which is a road I have been down before and found it difficult to get carers and also find things for him to do , I didnt want him just wondering around in all wethers , building based daycare is the best for my son and the one he attends is the only one in our area .I do understand they want to protect staff but everyone else seems to be back to some sort of normality , . Cleaning and disinfecting may help but they have got rid of maintenance staff and reseptionists who used to greet the clients as they arrived . It seems its being run down to a very basic level with very little compation ,.My son has been going there for 15 yrs and the decline over the last 5 years or more has been shocking but there is no alternative here .

Is anyone else having problems with daycare ?

Hi my son doesn't use day centres as they all closed down in our area , Newcastle, quite a few years ago. It sounds ridiculous closing the whole building if one person has tested positive, that person should just stay off work. Find out who the CEO is and get in touch with him/ her and get some answers, it's ridiculous. Also get the social worker involved as everything is relatively normal, I don't think we will ever be pre covid normal again. My understanding is where there may be vulnerable people they are still testing and if they test positive they inform their employer and stay off work for a few days. Shutting the whole building is crazy you need to know why !!

My son attends a day centre 5 days a week originally run by our county council who passed it to a company set up specially to run all the day centres in the county. If someone has covid the manager rings us to tell us and we decide if we still want to send our sun. It does not close . So your experience does sound a little over the top. Have you asked the manager why as this doesn’t appear to be a government or nhs ruling.

Thanks for your replies, I had a meeting with the manager , she seemed to be over the top with the rules on covid , she said staff were in to answer the phone ect but they will still be advising clients not to come in to the centre , There was 4 people in yesterday ? I explained that staff were not giving out options to attend clients were definitely told dont attend . She is going to look at the procedures again as she is only there 3 days a week . I also said the person with the positive test wasnt actually in the centre with covid it was a phone in and it was after the weekend , I also felt that hygiene there needs to be looked at . Hopefully things will get sorted before I go down the Social services route again .

I was minded to ask you which LA are you in?
