hi, I’m looking for any groups for my brother to attend locally in Cheshire, I’m his 24 hour carer, he has Down’s syndrome and is autistic. There just seems to be nothing around at all! I’d really love to get together with people in a similar position to myself and see what we can come up with to help families and people like my brother, maybe art and crafts, days out etc….xx

fun groups for disabled adults

Hi Maisey01 , we have details of a few Cheshire-based Network Partners (local Mencap groups that are affiliated to the national Mencap) on our website here: mencap.org.uk/search/groups...
Perhaps one of them would be able to help connect you with other families or carers nearby?
Our Learning Disability Helpline might also be able to suggest some groups near you. You can reach them on helpline@mencap.org.uk or through the webform here: mencap.org.uk/contact/conta...
Hope that's helpful. 🙂
Hi Maisie, I cannot praise the Special Olympics movement more highly- there are sporting and activity opportunities at every level of physical ability around the country and different sports can be tested out. My son has moved between ten pin bowling, judo and now bowls, which has truly been a lifesaver to him on both a physical and social level. They have links to other affiliated local groups too
Your local authority adult social care team and local carers centre should have lists of all available in your area. Look them up and get in touch.
Come along to some sessions on Zoom - I can easily send you free links - it’s a great way of meeting new people and making new friends. We have people come along from all over the country! They are provided by Inclusive Online Activities, Carol x
It is great - you’re so right! The website is inclusiveonlineactivities.com - please choose any Zoom sessions and I’ll send you free links, Carol xx
