hi there, I am wondering how many people with learning disabilities have access to counselling. Are there specialist counsellors that are better equipped for people with LD or would any counsellor be willing and able? I know of things like group music therapy for example, but when it comes to one to one counselling, it seems there isn't much information online.

There will be counsellors who do not have websites but who are on registers like BACP or UKCP but you will need to look into their special interests. On the Counselling Directory there is an option to request a phone call before any meeting to get a feel for that counsellor and ask their experience in any area. As a therapist myself, I would want somebody for my child who shows they will be wanting to understand and communicate with that individual because learning disability is not a general thing. There are certainly more people who specialise in neurodiversity and they will be a useful point of contact. Before that, it might be helpful to contact social services and ask them and if you can contact whoever provides music and art therapy for them, they will have personal recommendations.
