Hi. Does my sons PIP stop if he moves out to go to university? I know I will stop getting carers allowance when he’s not at home. Tia.

hi TinkerO he can get PIP while at university, ive known quite a few people online who got PIP at uni, PIP is purely to cover your daily care and/or mobility/outdoor needs as a disabled person,i know some people who used it to pay for taxis to and from uni.

there is a grant disabled students can get i think its called DSA?-if your son hasnt looked into it yet and is interested-he needs to ask the uni before he goes for an asesment, it can pay for laptops, software needed for the course, screen magnifiers, printers, unlimited ink, dragon:naturly speaking (its speech to text software-good for many people such as peope with dyslexia) .

one of my old staff-i thought she was amazing, and she went to be a nurse so i showed her the grant and she kept saying she wont be given it as "all she has is anxiety" and "theres people with much worse who need it", anxiety can be a massive issue for people so unis take it seriously- she got a laptop, printer and unlimited ink and unlimited paper which is where i know of that from. and there will always be someone worse off than yourself it doesnt stop your own difficulties and challenges though.

if your son was to stay in residential care while in uni (just using this for example)- he woudnt be able to get his PIP as you are thought to have all your care and mobility/outdoor needs met.

supported living is different, as you dont get funded as such-not total like residential care so he woud still fget his PIP.

i hope this helps i have hadf a bad seizure tonight so my head is very not good.
