Hey everyone!

My brother is 34 with autism living in our family home with our parents. He wants his own space now so are thinking supported living accommodation suits best. Has anyone got any info on how to start off this process? Will he get some kind of funding to help with payments? Help please 🙂

Firstly contact social services in your local authority and ask to speak to the learning disabilities team. Explain your situation and request a social worker to do a care needs assessment for your son and you can also request an assessment for yourself as his carers. Once they’ve done the assessments which may take a little while to organise you’ll be able to discuss the best options available suitable for your son and yourself. This is where you need to start and hopefully things will develop according to his needs. Funding will depend on his needs and the social worker will be able to advise. Good luck.
