If you are in a position to pay for an independent social worker consultant they are worth their weight in gold.

Hi, I have my sons review on Monday , it's always a stressful time as I have had some trouble in the past with social workers that do not live in our county , the last one had a row with my sons care agency over a small amount of money which ended with that agency pulling out of my sons contract as they couldn't agree with her , it was an unsettling time trying to get his support sorted with a new provider which ironically cost more money?? Could you advise jofisher how an independent social worker can help? It would be helpful for future reviews , it never gets any easier even after years of them . I hope oddfish7 you get a good social worker for the review as I think that's the key .

Hi I have a consultant social worker that has helped me no end getting my son moved from a horrendous care home and getting him moved somewhere local and far more suitable in every way. I M also goi g to pay her to help me with the yearly review as she knows all the questions to ask she knows what to look for and she’s independent so she is able to challenge she’s been amazing. See if you can find one locally otherwise mine maybe able to assist you. You can use your sons money to pay for this as it’s to assist and support him and in turn help you as they know all the laws as well and what should happen and when. I hope this helps you

I was looking for an independent social worker consultant recently but couldn't find one.

Is there a place where they can be found? Google searches didn't help me find one.

Thanks

worth looking into but I think I'm out of time for this review unless we postpone. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think have a clear idea of what's worked well, what hasn't and what needs to change. E.g. assessor's task was to find free activities in the community, volunteering in cafe, but no provision re; transport there and when it was pointed out I got 1:1 time increased which provider thought was unheard of. You need to have something specific and evidence to back it up otherwise I agree it is all talk and little action. You can google factsheets about what happens at an annual review. Good luck.
