Universal Credit are refusing to pay my son’s rent because the company not registered with council and they don’t know who they are

Hi there. The authorities need to know who the landlord is and if they cannot verify the legality of the landlord they will refuse to pay. There should be a tenancy agreement and the landlord can be identified using that. Hope this helps

I tried tenancy agreement but they are refusing. I will talk to social worker

Is your son based in Scotland? Is the property being let by a private landlord? In Scotland, housing benefit or UC rent element can only be paid by LA's for properties that are registered on the Scottish Landlord Register. This can be checked here landlordregistrationscotlan....

They put down not going to pay and I had to change it to private landlord and had to ask to see someone in Jobcenter. Which they made appointment and verified tenancy agreement. Now they sorted it all out
