Hello, I’m a mum to three very individual headstrong little people. My middle daughter who is 8 last year at school we were approached by her teacher and she said she had concerns over her learning specifically her reading, writing and maths but were told her reading etc is not as far behind as needed to put her forward for them to test her for any thing. She shows a lot of symptoms of dyslexia and Dcd with sensory issues too. She is so clumsy she’s constantly covered in cuts and bruises and struggles with some fine motor skills, she doesn’t really have any friend friends at school she floats between people or sits on her own and feels left out, She refuses to wear certain clothes or fabric she can’t stand any thing right or restrictive she will cry and cry until the item is removed and it’s showing a lot with her food the list of food she will actually eat and has to be cooked in a certain way is getting smaller and smaller I’m growing concerned she has some things that just arnt adding up and I don’t know a great deal about all this, she shows differ at signs for different ‘labels’ and I would like to know for sure instead of being told by teachers she’s borderline for this and that so that we can work with these and get her help at school that works for her as she is falling behind big time and refusing to go already with us only being back at school a few weeks as if she finds the work to hard or doesn’t understand what is being asked she switches off and refuses to participate whin the lesson and is being labelled already as lacking enthusiasm concentration and day dreamer and I’d like to help if I can ASAP. How and who do I talk to as school seem to not want to know unless she ticks every last box not a vast majority. Thank you

Your G P needs to refer you to a child paediatrician first and they can then decide where you go from there

i agree a referral to the paediatrician by the GP is needed. Also she needs a co-ordination assessment by occupational therapy. Your school nurse can also help she can start an early help assessment which brings all services together. Good luck

Hi. There should be a SENCO (special educational needs coordinator ) in the school. That person may be able to get a referral from the local authority if they have concerns too. Your child may be able to get additional help via an education and health care plan (EHCP). This will take a long time however but starts with the SENCO. An educational psychologist would be the main person to tell you about your child’s learning style and abilities. The local authority do have these people but there are also some that you can pay for privately. Call IPSEA or look at websites such as special needs jungle fir more help and info on EHCPs. Good luck

Hello it sounds like she is on the autistic spectrum to me, I would ask for her to be assessed.

Sounds like dyspraxia but you need to get your GP to get her an assessment which are taking a very long time .
