🚽 Sensory needs and Toileting 🚽

How can sensory needs impact our children or young persons Toileting success?

During the last few posts, I have been discussing and sharing what sensory needs are and the impact upon the body and the affects upon our children and young people to be able to plan, carry out actions and learn.

Sensory needs that are required to have a balance within the body, include, touch, body position, movement, internal body, vision, taste, smell and hearing senses.

When working towards being successful with our children’s Toileting needs, it is essential to consider their sensory needs, in relation to our children or young people;

🚽Being able to recognise the “internal “ need to pass a wee or a poo

🚽 Being able to enter the bathroom, toilet area and adjust to the “smell”, “vision” of the room

🚽 Being able to sit on the toilet and accept the “texture” of the toilet seat, touch need

🚽 Being able to sit on the toilet and achieve the correct position “position” need

🚽 Being able to sit long enough on the toilet “movement “ need, to be able to pass a wee and poo

These are just a few of the sensory needs to consider when working towards Toileting success 🌟
