Like many others I also have a 21 year old autistic daughter with a learning disability who is needle phobic and I am wondering how these vulnerable people are going to be vaccinated. I have been told I can request a home vaccination , but not heard of anyone successfully being able to organise this. DO you know if I still can? Do you have any idea when an alternative to a needle vaccination is going to be available?

Hello Elephant21
I will ask our expert, Lyndsey, about the home vaccinations.
She has posted about needle phobias here - healthunlocked.com/mencap/p...
I hope this is helpful.
Thanks
Sarah
I have the same problem with my son. I foresaw this problem weeks ago and started trying to put arrangements into place but was falling on deaf ears at all levels. He is in group 4 and should have had his by now, but because of his historic fear of needles he has not yet been offered one, despite the government statements claiming all in group 4 have either had or been offered one..
Instead, he has only just now been referred to the LDT to do some desensitization work with him and they are looking at ways to sedate him in order to administer the vaccine.
I also wrote to all the main TV news channels, asking them to please stop constantly showing needles going into arms as it is putting people off rather than at ease with the vaccine. Only BBC replied and they claimed they do not show close ups, which of course is utter rubbish as they absolutely do.
I feel alone and abandoned. Lots more could be done to address this rather than ignoring the obvious problems.
Good Afternoon,
I hope you took a look at my needle phobias post that Sarah has given below, here is an easy read too about the Vaccination :-

with regards to the getting the vaccine at home, this would need to be spoken to your GP about. They may offer this or they may offer a more quieter hub in their surgery.
