Cooking independently for daughter with l d

My daughter left alone with her 16 year old while I was teaching keyworker children. Tried to make cheese on toast, failed in the oven and somehow pulled the oven out of its position, then tried in the toaster, probably fortunately tripping all the socket fuses. So I got home to angry sister upset and kichen chaos.

My question, best, safest cooking equipment and techniques for teenager with ld that want to try???

Hello Manyjobs

Oh wow. Being independent and cooking for yourself is a great life skill. I'd expect a few bumps along the way. But this is a bit dramatic.

I am not sure it entirely answers your question but have you seen United Responses' accessible cooking videos?

unitedresponse.org.uk/resou....

Here is an example of one -

They are very good - but I am not sure how much they would help with using the equipment.

Best of luck

Sarah

Hi Friend

Understand your frustration. This has happened to myself with Dyslexic sister. Start with writing/drawing up a meal/snack together. Look online, watch TV (Good Morning is great, even Come Dine with me). Start with Breakfast...... a piece of toast and scrambled egg. Do the toast in the toaster (make sure you etc note the toasting time (number).... write it down. I find wipeable boards and markers great for this because if its not a viable solution you can just wipe and start again. Or post it notes (not on electrical equipment but on surfaces etc. Its not just the cooking its the preparing.......
