Do I still need to continue to make payments via direct debit even though the carers haven’t been visiting me due to the pandemic

There is no reason why you shouldn’t be receiving care whilst their is a pandemic as long as Healthcare workers use personal protective equipment (PPE) to shield themselves from droplets from coughs, sneezes or other body fluids from infected patients and contaminated surfaces that might infect them or you.

Contact direct payments and explain what’s happening. They will advice you how to sort out your care providers and accrued monies not spent. Make a point of the accrued monies, nobody pays for a service they don’t receive.

hello

Thanks for posting. I agree with @Head_cook that a lot of paid carers are still able to visit - even during lockdown. It is really important that you get the support you need.

Please could you contact our Learning Disability helpline (on 0808 808 1111 or email

helpline@mencap.org.uk) so that one of our advisors can help? If you don't feel comfortable calling, is there someone else who could all for you.

Many thanks

Sarah

Please do call the Helpline on freephone 0808 808 1111 or email us on helpline@mencap.org.uk where we can just take a few details and get you onto the waiting list to speak to one of our Information & Advice officers who have a wealth of knowledge around the social care system.

We have received calls very similar to yours.

Kind Regards
