Hi everyone,
Mencap has launched a new campaign today and we’d appreciate your support.
We recently held a survey that asked 1,069 people across the UK about their experiences of caring for someone with a learning disability during the crisis.
Today we can reveal that seven in ten (69%) people with a learning disability had their social care cut during the coronavirus pandemic, when they needed it most.
This is really shocking news. I’m sure many of you have been personally affected by these cuts to support – such as cuts to day services, personal care in the home and respite for carers.
This is where we need your help.
In September, Mencap will be telling Chancellor Rishi Sunak why he must spend more on social care as part of the government’s 2020 Comprehensive Spending Review. This is when the government decides how much money it plans to spend over the next three years.
We want to tell him that thousands of people support our call for greater investment in social care so that people with a learning disability can live happy, healthy lives.
We have launched a petition calling on the Treasury to invest in social care.
Here’s how you can help.
•Please sign the petition: mencap.org.uk/socialcarepet...
•Encourage others to sign it too, like friends and family members
•Share the petition on social media using the hashtag #SocialCareCrisis
Here’s a suggested tweet:
I've signed Mencap's petition calling on Chancellor Rishi Sunak to increase funding for social care - will you sign too? mencap.org.uk/socialcarepet... #SocialCareCrisis via @Mencap_Charity
We need to make our voice heard. Together we can make a difference.
Thank you.
