Bullying and name calling

One of my colleagues, Richard, has done a great video about how he feels when people call him the 'R' word:

youtube.com/watch?v=HOXi-rr...

It's very timely today as it is start of Anti-bullying week. I wondered if you have an stories about how bullying, any sort of bullying, has made you (or someone else) feel.

How did you deal with it? What helped?

Richard's top tip is to stay calm, and don't be embarrassed, and to tell someone. It is never your fault.

Many thanks

Sarah

Great video - very powerful stuff.

Bullying comes up again and again. It crushes people's confidence, and is very intimidating. We all need to speak out if we see it happening.

I really like this video. This feels very close to home for me as my brother (adult) used to get called a lot of name as we were growing up. It used to really upset me, but he wasn't that bothered. I don't notice it happening as much now, but that is probably that I am not out and about as much with him. Richard's advice is spot on - tell someone. Although it can be hard to know who to tell if you are just in the street. This is abuse and ultimately the police should be informed.

I guess it is all down to people not being used to people with an LD, and perhaps having never really met anyone before. I'd like to see a lot more clubs/groups/schools where there are both people with and with LDs there. Sometimes it feels like segregation and this just makes the lack of understanding worse.

Not what you're looking for?
