Feeling sporty?

Today is the start of Learning Disability Week 2019, and this year it is all about sport and inclusion - mencap.org.uk/get-involved/...

There are loads of inclusive sporting events all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Have a look at the map and see if there is anything you could take part in.

Iconic Steps created this video featuring the Mencap running group to show the benefits of sport and how it promotes inclusion.

It would be great to hear more about the sports that you do.

Do you find time to keep fit? How do you encourage someone with a learning disability to take part?

Many thanks, Sarah

Hello. My brother (45) isn't keen on sport but we have had found a few ways to motivate him. The trick for us it to make sure it isn't competitive - he just hates that. He likes dancing, going shopping at our local shopping centre (which can count as a walk), and swimming. Swimming has been a long battle - but he now enjoys being there. Not much swimming gets done, but lots of moving about. i'd love to hear what ideas other people have tried.

Great to hear your brother is loving the swimming! It's great exercise just to splash around as much as actual strokes, and the more fun it is - the better!!
