I am the parent of an adult child with learning disabilities and also a learning disability nurse. I have a new paper published in the journal of applied research in intellectual disabilities about how parents describe the positive aspects of parenting their child with intellectual disabilities. Interestingly, the positive themes identified by parents are similar to those described in coping and post traumatic growth following a traumatic event (the opposite end of the spectrum to PTSD).
