Here is a companion definitional article to assist in reading not only the TIL outcomes just posted from cohorts 2 and 4 from Iovance, but other research outcomes related to melanoma clinical trials.

omicsonline.org/open-access...

FYI, cohort 2 was comprised of melanoma patients where 1/2 received frozen and 1/2 received non-frozen grown TIL cells. Cohort 4 all received frozen TIL cells. Cohort 3 were a super small number of persons who have received TIL, relapsed, and were admitted for a second round of TIL treatent.

Wayne was one of the 68 patients in cohort 4 from across the US when he was treated last May 2019 at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital by Dr. Giao Phan, formerly at NIH. I reached out to her today to have a better understanding of definitions of some of the criteria in this study; Wayne's experience was catagorized in the "did not respond to treatment" group. Here is why:

The criteria for “Partial Response” is for targeted (pre-chosen) tumors to decrease at least 30% and stay down at 30% or more for at least 2 months without new lesions. His tumors decreased to 28% for a couple of months, but then during the subsequent month, he had a new lesion, so thus he did not reach an official partial response.

Disease control rate = partial response + complete response + stable disease. Thus this includes people with “Stable disease” whose tumors did not shrink but also did not increase and did not have new lesions. Wayne was not in this category either.

If any of you consider TIL treatment, I am willing to be a resouce to discuss the process in detail. We had another couple do this for us, and it helped us be prepared for what we experienced. She continues to be NED over 5 years post TIL from her NIH treatment.

peace,

Missy
