Wondering how you are all doing?

Just has some dental treatment this week and thought I was doing okay after it but now feeling the effects. Why does dental treatment do that? I made sure to ensure I didn't have adrenal in local aneasthetic, checked I wasn't sensitive to the ingredients in the filling. Ah well. I should be used to it having had ME for 30 years, but I guess that I hope I can get away with it. Needed to have the filling done. My teeth have never been great and trying to manage dental health as best I can.

Enjoy seeing the spring flowers emerge.

Hi Strongmouse

I started having scary reactions to dental anaesthetics and general anaesthetics before I was diagnosed with ME, and wasn't really sure why but after some intensive research since my official diagnosis, I realise that I have become hugely sensitive to anaesthetics in general. Unfortunately, not before suffering a few frightening episodes after treatment.

A really useful source of information is the leaflet on Dental treatment that the ME Association has on its site, which can be downloaded and given to your dentist. Sometimes its just the amount of anaesthetic that they use, so instead of the full dose which would be given to normal healthy patients, you might only need a half or a quarter dose. My dentist is amazing, once he realised my problem, he now proceeds very carefully, and this is also the case with any ops that I have had, by talking in length to the anaesthetist. Once they know how you have ME and how you react to drugs etc, they can take the appropriate action and care when administering to you specifically.

I would definitely recommend visiting the ME Association site and checking through the helpful information available, in connection with all the problems we face on a daily basis, which sadly, GPs, dentists etc in general, don't even realise or understand.

Good Luck

Yes I have done this, and got information about the likely ingredients. I have had allergies and chemical sensitivities for many years, so I'm very careful. I am allergic to some drugs and an old fashioned antibitotic and anaesthetic. They always take care to avoid these. when I need some teetch extracting they did it in hospital. I had a vasal vagal attack with my blood pressure dropping, but I recovered. I'm on some medication for osteoporosis so rying to make sure teeth stay as healthy as possible.

It is definitely worth finding a good dentist.

I understand what you are going through, and I feel for you, its such a horrible condition. Personally I feel that my life has been taken away, like so many others who have ME but also appreciate there are so many others suffering with similar or worse afflictions.Take care x
