I was previously on citalopram but my consultant changed me to amitryptaline which I have to say works well for me.
I was on Amitriptyline for 12 years, then thought I would change. I was on Dosulepine for 8 years, then the doc said it had too many possible side effects, so took me off it and on to Mirtazapim, which did not help my sleep. After a year of trying other things (OTC) I had another CFS relapse because I had not slept properly for a year. NOW I am happy to be back on Amitriptyline, at present 30mg a night gets me to sleep. The doc is happy, too, because I do not keep asking for sleeping pills. My advice to you would be stay on the Amitriptyline - it is a safe drug, and the one most recommended for ME/CFS sufferers.
Getting the meds right is quite a personal thing and can also depend on the type and frequency of the pain you experience, and your Doctors knowledge about what works best. Also if you are in the care of your family doctor, an ME specialist or even a pain specialist.
My gp suggested Sertraline when first diagnosed with CFS a few years ago. I think I took it for a couple of years and couldn't see any difference so I weaned myself off it over a few months with the aid of a pill cutter.
I found to be really helpful Ubiquinol (see my posts). After taking the highest dose for a big hit to my system I noticed within 3 weeks quite a difference to energy levels. Lowered to normal dose after 3 months. I up my daily intake at times I've overdone it (like now with the loosening of lock down ) until I feel .
