It’s Friday and It’s Pom Pom Time Again; The calm after the storms!!

Well, relative calm! After last week’s dramas, biblical down pours, high winds, cancelled flights and intercontinental events, we have two of our amazing racers running this weekend (Sunday).

First we have the esteemed    AlMorr , our serial Park Run specialist and consumer of post run chocolate swirls, taking part in the huge Great Scottish Run. Al has sensibly chosen the 10k option which follows a route which criss crosses the River Clyde, starting in George Square and ending on Glasgow Green. I am sure that there will be entertainment, bagpipes and a huge crowd lining the route to cheer on the runners and celebrate the races and Scotland. The route looks to have an uphill start, followed by a gentle descent to the finish.

Our second runner is no less esteemed; you may have seen    cheekychipmunks orbiting the planet, high on excitement as she prepares to renew her acquaintance with the Cardiff Half. I am sure that she won’t be outshone, even by the surgeon who is running as a princess, gold dress and all, in an attempt to make the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest half run by a person dressed as a cartoon character! She just wants to show her girls that she can do anything. Well, we already know that our very own cheeky can do anything!! The route description promises a tour of iconic landmarks, beautiful scenery and historic buildings (it starts at Cardiff Castle). It is a huge circular route, mercifully described as predominantly flat and fast. I am sure that there will be music and choirs to celebrate the day and Wales. Have a fabulous day cheeky, and bring home the bling!!

Thanks CC, this afternoon I was at a brass band concert in Glasgow, after the concert I went to the concert hall cafe and had a piece of cake and a Latte coffee, then before going home walked a short distance to part of the 10K route I'll be running on Sunday, that's the hill at the start, not too steep , I will run up that hill on Sunday morning, it starts about 200 metres from the start and is no more than 300 metres long, then it's downhill, after that the route then goes past of all things the head office of Scottish Power, my energy supplier, then over the M8 motorway, after that through streets I don't really know before crossing the river Clyde on a section of the M8 motorway which will of course be closed to traffic for about 8 hours on Sunday, after that running through more streets that I don't know before once again crossing the River Clyde on another bridge, not the motorway, at 3K to go this part of the run is very familier to me, it's adjacent to the the Clyde Walkway which I run quite often on a Saturday when I don't go to parkrun, just last Saturday I ran 3K on this section in a time of 18-50 but this Sunday as I will be following the 80 minute pacer that last 3 K will be 24 minutes, I wish you CC all the very best for your Cardiff half marathon.

Cheeky, I was supposed to be doing the Cardiff Half 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 as you know but my training was completely derailed…by life and Covid, so will be cheering all you wonderful runners on from the sidelines! My sister and eldest son are both running. It’s my son’s first Half so PB guaranteed!

Two complete HU legends!! All the very best  AlMorr on your 10k, I hope it’s a lovely run. I spent yesterday at Berlin airport with the 2hr HM pacer, Angus - he’s one to have a good chat to, I bet you’d get on like a house on fire!

And cheekychipmunks I know how much you love this run, I’m sure you will make it worthy of its ‘Super Half’ status. Have a wonderful run.

Thanks BC66 and everyone wishing me all the best for my first big 10K run on Sunday, although I have already ran 54/10K's I still feel a little nervous as this is the first 10K running with thousands of other runners, however, not as nervous as some who are running their first Half Marathon ever, some of them on Facebook have used the word "terrified" the way they feel now, certainly not me, the weather forecast for the run is light rain, hopefully that's wrong.

Good luck to AlMorr on your first big run in the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow. Don’t worry if you can’t find your pacer Al - they are sometimes hard to spot. You just run at your own pace as your are the 10k King.

Thanks Dexy5, if you don't know Glasgow I'll tell you what my plan is before the run begins, there is a very steep hill within 5 minutes of me getting off the bus on my way to the start, now this hill is 15 degree gradient very very steep and was used by the cyclists in Glasgow 10 years ago at the Commonwealth Games and last year at the cycleing World Championships, the cyclists had to cycle up that hill 15 times on a circuit after cycling from Edinburgh, that is not the hill that is on the running route, thank goodness, however, from the top of that hill I will look down and at the bottom see all the pink wave runners congregating before they run, when I get there I will make my way to where the pacers are, they have a high pace flag that can be seen easily I hope, in the wave I am in there are 3 pacers, 75, 80 and 85 minutes, I intend to run along with the 80 minute pacer.
