When you forget to stop your watch πŸ™ˆ

Yesterday I headed to Longford to run their half marathon. It is a 5.6k loop along the banks of the Royal canal. The event also included an ultra and a marathon, which made for a great atmosphere as people called out to fellow runners on the opposite bank. The crowd are at the start/ finish as is the water station. As you come within 1k of each loop start, you can hear the crowd cheering and the commentator on the PA system encouraging everyone. There was a lady in her late 70s completing her 300th marathon, just amazing to see, the runners pausing to talk to her and cheering her on.

As it is all on a tarmac path and away from traffic, it was very safe, and also scenic. The only hazards being the ducks and moorhens, who didn't understand the highway code πŸ¦†

I had planned an easy run just to finish due to lack of training, but a PB came within reach, so I sprinted for the finish. PB achieved and medal awarded, but I was so giddy I forgot to stop my watch. I'll be back next year to run it again.

If you are in Ireland, or thinking of a nice HM, this is the one to go for. Highly recommended! I'll be back!

Sounds like a fantastic event Teresa. Well done on your PB. Forgetting to stop your watch? Easy to do when your run is being chip timed or (in my case) you are running with a coaching app which records your time too. I nearly did the same at the GSR….I wondered why my watch was buzzing when I went over the pressure pads at the end….πŸ™„

Congratulations on your pb, it's great when your not expecting one. It sounds really good, a couple of people I know did the 10k run. I might look into it for next year.

Thanks, I hope to do the marathon there in August (depending on how Belfast goes this weekend).I usually arrive at least an hour and a half before an event, it is amazing how quick the parking at these events fill.

Thank you. I had been carrying a hamstring injury, and only got back up to 8 miles two weeks before. Then a few very slow shuffle type runs of between 4-5 miles in the last week. I was surprised how much energy I had! And hammy hamstring behaved itself too.
