Hi all! I am setting a far ahead goal of completing the 2024 NYC Marathon. I will be 45 years old and it will be my first marathon (unless I do one for training between now and then).
Are there any NYC past runners who have advice on when and how to start the entry process? I live in Atlanta so it makes it a little harder (almost impossible to do the 9+1 program).
Thanks in advance!

I can't help you with any experience I'm afraid - but what an exciting goal! Wishing you the very best of luck with the entry process and lots of fun in training π₯°
Hi im4unc , I've only completed one marathon, which was more or less the polar opposite to the NYC Marathon, so have no experience of that particular event.
I'm guessing that 2024 entries to the ballot will open in February 2024, but you'd need to keep checking dates, as all I can find online right now refers to the 2023 event. It'd also be worth looking into a charity place, imo.
Thanks for the link! Iβm a passive runner right now; a personal trainer so I actually focus a lot more on strength than cardio. Excited to get started slowly. π
While you'll be starting from a better fitness base than most people, I'd certainly suggest you get started on road running sooner rather than later. I've never run anywhere other than outdoors, mostly on trails, but I gather from those who run in gyms that it's quite different from running outside. Enjoy your preparations!
Ooooh so exciting! My only experience is I used to live in NYC, and I watched the marathon go by where my building was. Unfortunately the 2 combined donβt really answer your question! Hands down the best city in the world though imho π.
itβs a huge field! Unimaginable π³. I think itβs 10,000 runners.
Iβve seen good footage of the race on the Seth Demoor channel on YouTube. Itβs free to watch. Itβs tough as thereβs some climbs involved. The race has distinct areas with different vibes. He commented that the Jewish quarter was really quiet and smelled divine π His race bombed as he had gut issues due to too much rich food the night before. He finished the race and enjoyed the experience π
Lots of support as youβd expect.
I was reading the results last night looking up someone I know and was surprised at the ages and the times they racked up π³. Itβs good to see the 77 year olds rippin it up on the world stage π₯πββοΈπββοΈ Loads of folks in the 70-80 category.
yeah but most of em are out of sight once the gun goes off π. Elites and sub elites often drop out early on if they know they wonβt place. I watched some of it and it didnβt look like folks were crammed in as they ran through the districts
I saw the pre-amble which showed folks being bussed to the start. Whether that was the elites and subs Iβm not sure.
The logistics must be mind-boggling π€―. Iβd love to run it but Iβd have to be beamed to the start line π.
