The day dawned cool and sunny, with very little wind. Perfect for a cheeky 10k round my home city. π I headed out to the Park & Ride nice and early and arrived at the event with a good hour to spare. I even found a rank of loos with no queue! π± The loos brought back memories of Irishprincess , as thatβs where we met for the very first time this time last year when we were both running the HM! Happy days.
I was relieved not to be running that distance today. All my recent runs have been affected by a truly hideous cold, and Iβm not sure Iβd have made it. 10k is a nice friendly distance and I felt good, although I did start to flag towards the end. It was mighty warm in the sun, and good old Bristolβs βfast and flatβ description isnβt strictly true! Still, I chugged on, ran the lot and came in in 1:19:37. Not quick, but I knew I wouldnβt be able to do that today.
The bling is beautiful. So heavy and chunky. Worth every step! ππ
well done Cheeky, looks like a very respectable time to me! Iβve been running slow this autumn, must be something to do with the time of year. The profile doesnβt look very flat and your journey home sounds like a nightmare (unless the reason for your delay was a trip to the pub!). Looking forward to meeting up in a few weeks time.
Thanks Shakes, I was happy with with sub 1:20 I must say. Iβd like to think that Iβll regain some fitness before the GSR, but at least itβs flat. ππ»ππ»
No, the long trip home didnβt involve the pub. That would have been a good reason! It did involve a 50+ minute wait for the bus, a 30 minute bus ride to the car, then a drive home full of traffic jams. ππππ
A big congratulations to you CC on completing the Great Bristol 10K, you will be very proud of yourself, that is a beautiful bling, I am sure you celebrated that run with wine and cake.
I just remembered that you ran at parkrun yesterday, I think if I was running a 10K on a Sunday I would probably miss parkrun on the Saturday before, so well done on running both.
I did do PR yesterday Al, but it was on purpose. Iβm used to running 4-5 times each week and I donβt worry about consecutive days if itβs βjustβ a 10k race.
Iβve only run a maximum of twice for the last couple of weeks since this cold, and it affected my fitness hugely. I wanted some miles in my legs to help with today. π
Thanks dijep, yes the weather was lovely. πBit warm in the sun, but the entertainment on the course served as a nice distraction. Hope youβre able to relax this evening! I look forward to your report. Wasnβt the medal gorgeous? π
Typically determined run Cheeky. Letβs hope that is the end of this pesky bug. 2 hours for a 15 minute trip and no shopping involved? Ridiculous!π
I couldnβt believe it Jonathan. Iβd passed the first rank of loos which had an eye watering queue, but I wanted to offload my bag first and discovered a secret rank. Mind you when I walked past a bit later the secret was clearly well and truly out! I timed it perfectly. ππ»
Iβm so pleased GTFC. Iβm clearly feeling better as it was only a minute slower than the Cheddar 10k last weekend, and a fair bit of that was downhill! π
Brilliant cheekychipmunks ! I thought that time sounded familiar; I did the New Forest Marathon 10k in 1:19.35! What a lovely day you had for it too. How did you find the course compared to when we did it in 2019?
The P&R on the way back sounds horrendous. I remember when we did it before our friends drove us in and parked in the city car park with no problem.
Well done Cheeky - certainly looks like a lovely piece of bling!π π
My very first 10k race was the Bristol 10k. I ran it with my sister and got a PB which stands to this day! (I seem to be getting slower all the time!!π€£π€£) It holds a special place in my heart as I was born in Bristol too.π
I know exactly what you mean Tabbles. I almost ground to a halt during the HM last year. At least I knew it was coming up this year, and (for us 10k runners), only at 8k! π
Well done Cheeky!! Fabulous run and well done on your time. Thoroughly deserved bling too. Iβm sorry your park and ride and journey home was so awful. Next year you could walk it instead as a warmup. π Would be quicker for sure.
Thank you Brian, it was a lovely day and Great Run came up with the goods as usual. π So well organised. The P&R wasnβt, however. Itβs been fine on race days in the past too. π€·ββοΈ I could walk, in theory, but most of it is on busy A roads, and on the way home itβs 90% up hill! Not much fun after running a race. π³
Well done Cheeky. Fabulous bling and a great warm up for the event of the year in 3 weeks. It took me over an hour to get home from Lincoln 10k last year and itβs only 4 miles, so I can absolutely sympathise over the journey home π
How many from these lovely forum are due to be in the GSR? I grin thinking about you all! No, more a beam!! What would I be like if I actually joined you, I can't begin to imagine? Only just managing 30 minutes running due to rehab from hamstring, knee and a lesser extent Achilles, so no long runs for me for a while yet.
Less than 3 weeks to the happy day! ππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Woohoo!!! Well done Munksπͺ Iβm jealous becuase that bling is gorgeous π just my colour π
I canβt believe itβs a year since we first met and I really thought we would have met up again long before now (at the time we were planning to meet in Bath in March)
Considering how your cold affected you beforehand I think you did amazingly well!
