Half marathon plan

So I’ve finally decided I’m going to aim for HM distance, and I’ve come up with a 16 week plan, which includes increasing my long run by 1km each week, and then a cut back week every 4th week.

This week was supposed to be the start of the plan, but for some reason I haven’t been feeling it at all. Still managed 3 runs (totalling 14.5km) but all been pretty lethargic. I think it’s probably down to a lack of sleep.

Hopefully I’ll get well rested today and tomorrow, and can officially start the plan from Tuesday. I’ve not signed up for any races or anything, so there’s no pressure to complete it in 16 weeks.

Wish me luck, and I’ll keep you posted.

P.s - There is one race that has taken my eye, the Chester metric marathon at the start of October. I’ve got enough time to get up to that distance by then, but having only ever run on my own, not sure I’m ready to take the plunge and sign-up.

Good luck to you for your HM training, one kilometer a week is fine for your training, you could "take the plunge" and sign up for that 26K metric marathon in October.

Ooooh, do it!!! Chester metric marathon is really high on my 'to do' list, but I have an event that is still being deferred from Oct 2019 so the earliest I'm going to manage it is next year, 2022. If you've never run an official race before, maybe you can find a shorter, low-key local event to do as a 'dress rehearsal' so by the time you hit the Chester MM start line you'll be a pro and have less 'unknowns' to think about. The goal and the plan sound great. Enjoy and good luck.

Thanks. Yeah was thinking might be a bit far as a first event, I’m still undecided. I’m in Yorkshire, so will look to see what shorter events are coming up, that sounds like a good idea.
