(or as close as suits you - but do watch out for the clock change!)
โ โ โ
Setting off at 9.30am on Sunday 28th March we will have an added boost, knowing we are all on the virtual HU start line together - running on our own, but definitely not alone. However, we realise the date/time might not work for everyone, so in order to give greater flexibility we will accept runs at any time on Sunday March 28th or at any point during the following week of Mon 29th March - Sat 3rd April (note this is a change of date from the original announcement - well all the big events have changed their dates, why not us too?)
---
This event is entirely free to enter. International entries welcomed (in accordance with local COVID guidelines). There are no t-shirts, medals, socks, aid stations or toilet queues! No training plans or routes will be supplied! Instead this will be a unique HU experience, run your way ๐
โ We will compile an event playlist based on your suggestions. Look out roseabiโs poll and submit your response so we can see what apps you use to listen to musichealthunlocked.com/marathon... If you havenโt submitted your suggestions for the playlist, itโs not too late! Let us know in the comments below ๐ถ
โ We will put together a โrun experienceโ using RunGo. Admittedly this will be somewhat quirky and you can let us know if it adds or detracts from your experience after the event (please be kind!). Itโs not too late to 'feature' in this - let me have your motivational/funny message and we can include it in our audiotrack, the more the better (just send me a message via chat to keep it a surprise) ๐๐๐
โ We will produce a guide for using RunGo and the playlist in advance of the event. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to try RunGo out in advance and there will be no need to set up an account if you donโt already have one. All you will need is a phone.
โ We will put up a post for you to submit your finish times after the main event on 28th March, which will remain open until 3rd April. No proof required.
โ Race report posts will be most welcome, as always.
โ Finally, we will of course have a winner for each distance. The winner will be the person who completes their run in the time closest to our randomly generated time (after the event closes). There is absolutely no requirement to run fast to win this event! ๐๐
---
โ โ โ We hope youโre eager to join us โ โ โ
Register your entry NOW - simply comment below as to which distance you have chosen to run (transfers will be allowed right up until you start, there will be no fee to transfer - if you need to change distance between registering and the actual event just send me a message via chat or comment on your original entry reply here and we will transfer you. At present there is no option to defer) (It wouldnโt be a proper event without some T&Cโs!!!)

Here's to a great week everyone, whether you're running, cross-training or resting - have fun!!!

Thrilled to be number one for the first and undoubtedly last time linda9389 ! Could you also add me to the 10k start list please? Given the change of dates it's possible that I'll do both in a week.
Another superstar!!! Will do! As I said below, there will be a significant overlap in the RunGo experience so you may only want to use that for one or the other!
Not sure I qualify as a superstar, nutter more like! I'd really like to get another HM under my belt so that will be priority for Sunday 28th. If that works out, I'll have a go at the 10k later in the week.
How exciting! Unfortunately even the 10k is a bit too early for me so I'll have to watch from the sidelines and cheer everyone on instead ๐คธโโ๏ธ๐ฅณ๐ฅณGood luck, runners! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
We definitely don't want you to push too hard and are very, very grateful for the cheers! Thank you. Hopefully getting back to 10k won't be too far off for you ๐
Brilliant. Adding you to the start list. Go easy on the hip though. I'm finding concentrating hard on my running posture is helping with mine - standing tall, using my core muscles; and of course strength work will always help the glutes and quads take pressure off the hip ๐
Sign me up please. I'll definitely do the 10k on the 28th, but I should also be able to do a HM on the 3rd. That'll keep me on track for by 2021 running challenge. ๐
I'm loving this!!! I get to add you to both start lists ... although I think it's likely there will be a significant overlap in the two audio tracks ๐ค You may only want to use that for one or other of the runs rather than both!
Iโve had to bin off my last two runs to return to base with dodgy guts ๐โบ๏ธ
Plus Iโve got a painful bit under my foot as if Iโve landed heavily on a stone, which I probably have. Not a great start to the challenge. I did lose weight though ๐
Oh no! I bruised my heel at one point last year. It was incredibly painful to walk on (fine for running though as it turns out I barely touch the ground with my heels when I run) but was gone in two weeks. I still have no idea how I did it ๐คทโโ๏ธ. Hope yours heals fast
I only have one suggested tune, which I believe everyone should run to, and thatโs Kenny Logginsโ โFOOTLOOSEโ. Itโs game on when this pops up. I whirl my virtual lasso above my head ๐๐ถ๐ต๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
I'd like to try for the HM please. It will be three weeks after my first one (Sunday 7th) and my hips and thighs are getting back to normal, but we'll see. It's highly likely I will be on here at 8.30am on the 28th saying "no no no - I meant 10k!!"
Can I put a bid in for a special prize for the slowest finisher? ๐ข๐
I have put you on the HM start list. I ran my second HM race three weeks after my first ever. All was good. I then ran my third (again a race) a few weeks later and everything went pear shaped so all I would say is listen to your body - if all feels well then go for it, but if not the 10k is there!!!
Wayhay!!! Iโm in for the HM on the 28th please linda9389 ! Iโll be going out before 9:30 otherwise Iโll be forever avoiding dog walkers! ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐
There you go - bib number 008. See you at the start line!!! Watch out for posts with RunGo guidance and do let us have a couple of tunes for the playlist if you like ๐
I DID IT! I have been trying add my race report and screen shot of finish time and stats but it does seem to have posted. How/where should I post? Thanks so much for sorting, am so grateful to you opening the start a day earlier than planned, you are such a supportive bunch!
Hi Linda9389, Roseabi and running friends! Please put me down for the HM on Sunday 28 March๐โโ๏ธ Thatโs also going to be the end of my virtual LEJOG journey๐ too - just under 38 miles still to go, so I need to stick to my training plan to make it happen!๐๐ค
Hi team, I had signed up for HM and training going well completed week 6 of my plan this morning. Unfortunately training will be on hold for the next few weeks as I need to have a operation tomorrow. Iโll cheer everyone on and hopefully will be back running in April.
Ahh, we'll miss you but your cheers will be very, very welcome! Hope the op goes well and your recovery is swift. The runs will be waiting for you ๐
Ignore cheekychipmunks ๐๐๐ But don't ignore your body! Check carefully on a run beforehand and make a wise choice. You're on the HM start list and we'd love to have you, but the 10k is there as an option if needs be ๐ (What once seemed impossible becomes addictive ... and then of course, the FM worm will be hatching shortly and wriggling around in your head ๐๐๐)
I am doing a half marathon but it is planned for the 23rd March which was ok as per previous announcement. The date is booked because my running buddy is on holiday during the week from the 25th.
I also usually run on Saturdays but can try to do a 10k on the Sunday 28th instead of running Saturday 27th!
Ahh, I'm so sorry! I'm not sure I will have the RunGo thing ready for 23rd in HM format, but as we've changed the date I am more than happy to accept your time. For now, I'll add you to the start list for the 10k, and you can submit an 'extraordinary' time for the HM too ๐
No worries - maybe you can be our guinea pig??? test runner??? trail blazer ??? ๐ Hopefully the roads will be quieter on a Sunday .... if you pass any of us toot your horn loudly!!!
I do often consider tooting for runners but I think they immediately assume its harassment! ๐๐ป๐
Hi linda, Iโll go for the 10k please, I might just make it back to 10k by the 28th ๐ค, itโs a bit of an uphill struggle at the moment, on a repeat of week 1 AGAIN of my HM plan, still smiling though ๐
Adaptability - the first skill of a Half Marathoner! You'll get there with a bit of perseverance ๐ I'll add you to the 10k start list and we'll see you on the start line - there's nothing to say you can't include a warmup and cool down walk, or a walk to take on fuel or a walk to take photos, or a walk of any kind come to that!!!
Me!! My HM has been put back a bit by various stumbling blocks, but I'm hoping to complete that on Wed 24th. I reckon I'll be u for a "little" 10K on the Saturday...
Thank you for organizing this HU event! Please add me to the list for the10k. Iโll be doing it later in the day your time, since herein Canada 9:30 would be while Iโm sleeping. I havenโt done a 10 for a while but did a 6 this week so it should be achievable. My half marathon will be for late summer/early fall.
HM please! Doing the double ๐ฑ I have to do it now as Iโll be raising money in memory of one of my team mates who passed away early this week. He will give me the extra push to finish it.
Thank you both for organising, it will be awesome!
Count me in for the HM and 10k - sorry not able to do the Sunday but will do both in the following week - understand plans change, I had though planned Friday 26th for the HM, still on the plus side can have an extra week for stamina training ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐
Sorry about the change interfering with your plans. If it's too tricky to reschedule, let us know and we can take your time from 26th. I'll put you on the start list for both.
That was just as everything was closing down wasn't it ... I'd hoped to do that one this year but it wasn't to be! Good to have you at the start line for the 10k - will add you to the list now.
It was - 15th March 2020, Hampton Court. Such a strange atmosphere in London that weekend and we were quite surprised it wasnโt cancelled, but, having trained for it, there was no way I was going to miss it!
Hi Linda and Roseabi - I'd like to do the 10K please. Thank you very much for organising it all. Looking forward to it. Have a great weekend! ๐๐โโ๏ธ
All the very best tomorrow. I did that this time last year ๐ You'll smash it!!! Do let us have a race report ๐ I'll add you to the start list for the 10k
Thanks Linda! Appreciate it! Iโm so nervous!! But if you did it this time last year- thatโs inspiring- Iโve seen your achievements on here! Will let you know how I get on!! ๐๐
Hi Linda and RoseabiI love the idea of a virtual HU event. Can you put me down for the half marathon please? I havent stuck to my training plan! However this virtual race and the COGH has really helped keep me focused on getting out and running. So thank you. I'm hoping to finish LEJOG 4 on the same day too.
I'd love to listen the play list but as most of my routes are on country lanes with little or no pavement I think it might be a bit risky.
Fantastic! See you at the start line. Good to hear that these challenges are motivational- I always need to be working towards something! Safety definitely needs to be top priority, you need all your senses on country lanes for sure.
Hi linda9389 and roseabi , I am in for the HM! Thank you for organising all this, you have clearly put a lot of thought in it ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ It means a lot, especially since the Sheffield HM I have been training for was postponed from March 28th to the autumn ๐ญ Putting another event in my calendar has kept me motivated ๐ I am really looking forward to it!
Excellent, see you on the starting line! Autumn will be busy with events this year, but we still need a spring goal to make use of all the winter training! Bib number 020 is all yours!!!
Greetings - please can you add me for the 10k... currently working my way to HM distance, but that is pencilled in for 2nd May... and I think 28th March may be a little too soon ๐๐
Please can I be entered for the 10km. Iโm slowly building back up my distance, and if it wasnโt for this pesky ankle, Iโd definitely be up for a second HM.
Sorry you're not going to be doing the HM with us, but relieved too - I'd feel very guilty if anything went wrong. We've got our eyes on you - on the start list yes, but not on the start line unless the ankle is ready please! I think I need to add a disclaimer to our T&C's - 'remember, running when injured is inadvisable and would be entirely at your own risk'. A lot of healing can take place in two weeks though, good luck ๐
Count me in for the HM please ๐...glad you've extended the date a little as it may be the Easter weekend before I get there. Actually the Bank Holiday would give an extra days recovery before work so it may be my best bet ๐
Fantastic - and I'm so please my last minute date changed has helped someone at last rather than being an inconvenience! You're now on the start list ๐
Lol, I did notice it didn't suit everyone...thumbs up from me at least, I needed the extra time which I assume is what made you change. I remember when you 1st put the dates up, there weren't many takers. Looks like plenty now though, for both distances ๐๐
I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't factored in that I would have to have the 'app' ready for the earlier date and having been really busy for the last three weeks I hadn't done anything on it! Oops! If someone needs to run the week before that's still OK, but unfortunately things won't be quite ready ... There's definitely enough of us for a crowd on the start line ๐
Brilliant! You're in and are our 25th HM entrant, bib nr 025 is yours!!! The start line might get a bit busy but I'm sure we'll all be more than suitably socially distanced ๐
Hi. Please put me down for the 10k on the Sunday and the HM the following Friday (2nd April). Can I have the same bib number for both please? I wouldn't want to mix them up and run with the wrong one.
Fantastic, that's true dedication!Much as I like to oblige (not to mention recycle) wherever possible, I'm afraid the answer to your question is no, sorry but I cannot!!! That would mess with the system๐คทโโ๏ธ๐! However, because you've asked ... here's what I'll do .... I've added you to the 10k start list which gives you bib number 336 and I will give you bib number 036 for the Half. I now have a big gap in the HM start list, but it's worth it because I'm keen to help (though it probably doesn't help at all ๐). Should you inadvertently run with the incorrect bib, I see nothing in the T&Cs which would penalise you, so please don't lose any sleep over it๐ .
See you at the startline - hopefully you'll be the one with something or other 36 on his bib ๐
If you spot someone with bib number 336036, that's likely to be me ๐. Sorry for messing up the start list (I seem to have a talent for not quite fitting in).
Hi Linda, can you sign me up for the half? Purely by accident it is the day my current HM plan ends. My birthday is two days earlier so the wine fog should just about have cleared by then. Can I add 'One way or another' by Blondie to the list as it has helped on many a run? Thanks for rallying the troops again!
Sure Paul - the only thing is I don't have any of the stuff ready yet - the playlist or the RunGo experience. But I can include you in the startlist and we can record your time. Sorry not to be ready sooner! There are two others running ahead of the window in the same way.
Hello! Please add me to the HM start line! I will try my very best to be there at 9.30 so please request the cows don't have any babies that morning so I can get my jobs done fast!!! Thank you so much for organising this....it is my first HM and I don't feel alone with all of this support. I'm excited....and quite nervous!
Yay! So pleased you're going to join us. Calfs are no excuse mind, you can run later in the day or later in the week if needs be, but of course it would be great if you can set out at 9:30 along with lots more of us. Nervous is good - that turns into 'race magic' on the day and helps you from the moment you start running. Bib number 027 is now all yours!
Forgot to register. If I can manage to arrange the time out of the house and my knees are still OK, I will go for the half on the 28th - if half isn't looking sensible I'll do the 10k, but would really like to do the half!
Fantastic! I will add you to the HM start list and keep everything crossed that you'll be good to go on 28th, but if not then the 10k is always there for you ๐
Can I join for 10k please? It might have to be last knockings i.e. Easter weekend as I'm not really 10k ready but it might just about be doable in 3 weeks. Will we be able to use RunGo if we run outside of the official time/date?
Lovely! Hopefully you will be ready, but definitely don't push it just for this. Once we've set up RunGo it will be there indefinitely I think, so the answer is yes to that question ๐ By then though everyone may have said how awful it is and you'll be happy to have dodged a bullet ๐ I'll add you to the start list now and we'll keep our fingers crossed for you, but being sensible is the priority ๐
Ha ha! Yes - I will wait to see what everyone else says.Of course If I don't feel ready then I won't push it. A couple of 4/5km runs plus a longer run of 7k this week, 8k next week and then maybe a 10k on the Easter weekend might do it. (Almost within the 10% rule)
Just heading out today, hoping to run a bit further than 10km in preparation for our HM. I just hope my trots bogs off so I donโt have to dash for home again โน๏ธ๐ค๐๐โโ๏ธ
Oh gone on then - count me in please for a 10k! Only been 5k ing recently and struggling with motivation, but this will give me reason for a longer run, though I suspect there will be lots of jeff ing๐
I didnโt get much out of the RunGo thing โบ๏ธ It didnโt record any distance at all and only spoke to tell me my pace was non-existent I saw the virtual route and a message but nothing was spoken
That's not quite how it should be! Am I right thinking you are running with the Apple version? The first things I would check are the settings. After that you need to be sure that you definitely chose the VIRTUAL OUTDOOR mode to run.
Have a look at the settings in the guide again ... when I was running - following the virtual route - the map displayed on my screen was a real map of where I was, with a red line for where I'd run and a blue dot for where I was. That's android and apple may be different, but it may give you an idea if Rungo is picking up your location at least.
and when I finished this was the final screen (it may be different on Android, but I imagine it will be similar). DId you get any details? or just zero? I'm trying to work out whether it is just a sound issue or whether it was more fundamental given you say it thought your pace was zero!
This confirmed the time and distance; also see the submit virtual race at the bottom
Perhaps ... my son's didn't record to his logbook either ... but we were just sat on the sofa so zero distance was correct in that case. The settings in the app were totally different for Apple and I don't have access right now. Try it tomorrow. Let me know how it goes. If still no success I will try my daughter's iPhone or maybe my OH will let me have his work phone for a short while (what's that, did you see that flying pig too?)
I can just imagine my husband loaning me his phone. Er no ๐. One day I will get a phone with huge battery life and loads of oooomph. Just for running I think thereโs one called Galaxy Power ๐ฑ
Great. Have a check to see if there is any info being recorded by RunGo - and be sure to hit 'virtual outdoor' rather than any other options to start the run ๐ค But if all else fails, just have a great run - cos that will do it every time ๐๐
Woo hoo - just back from a 9k in prep for the 28th 10k race, and trialled the Rungo app (all worked fine) and the play list (some great pieces in there and some I would definitely never choose to listen to, but I'm glad to know we'll all be 'riding on a donkey' together next Sunday ๐คฃ Will there be a shared virtual route for the day ? Or should we just set run and go ? Anyway - look forward to it. See you there !
Excellent! Did you try the virtual 1k route? There will be a virtual route for the 10k and another for the HM. Both will virtually follow a real race route with snippets from the admin team and people who submitted soundbites. There will be something to distract you and maybe make you smile, every 0.5 to 1 kilometre. Hopefully it will help us all feel we're running 'together'
I know!!! There's nothing we can do about that unfortunately. I'm hoping the whole robot voice thing will add to the amusement factor ๐ I've listened to it so much now I'm starting to think it's not so bad after all ... but that's because I long since gave up expecting to hear the 'cheer' factor from Miss Robot Voice (and Mr Robot Voice on OH's iPhone was even worse!!!).
Ok, so this is me NOT signing up to the 10k ๐คฃ๐คฃ but nevertheless committing to running my planned 9k using the RunGo 10k route and the Spotify list!
As Iโm gearing for the 10k Runderwear run just the week after ๐ณ, I thought I can join in here, but with a planned 9k training route.
RunGo is downloaded (and experimented with... great little app!) and Spotify list put in my favourites. So I am all ready to go and will probably join you at 9:30 on Sunday!
Fantastic! It will be wonderful to have you along. You'll have to start it up before your warm up and let it continue during your cool down so you get to hear the end ๐
There is indeed! This was the last post which gives you the link for the playlist and also a link for you to try out RunGo healthunlocked.com/marathon... will be putting up a post later today or tomorrow just reiterating where everything is ๐
I haven't tried it, but it certainly should. I have run it alongside Komoot which is another GPS oriented app. If you normally run with Strava, I suggest you go into the RunGo app settings and turn off pace and distance alerts (but leave everything else on). That way you will get the run commentary but won't get extra alerts. Our commentary will give you all the major distance milestones plus other chat. It is possible that strava alerts will either be 'talked over' or may be stacked up until RunGo has finished 'talking'. In the background though, Strava will be recording all your stats as accurately as normal. If you are unsure, have a trial with the '1k Try Me' route we set up - you don't have to run, you can use it while you're walking somewhere ๐
Did my 10k this morning as we are confined tomorrow. (Having done my HM a couple of weeks ago) I was going to do one last Thursday but pulled up at 5 as my heart was not in it. Was feeling a bit flat to be honest and after a bit of soul searching I think it was a bit of "HM done, how do I follow that up" syndrome. To be honest, that is a question I will have to work on as to be honest there is no way I would consider a full marathon at this point, the first thing I thought of at the end of the half was "could I do that again?" So, soul searching aside I thought this morning I would take a fresh approach and see if I could better my time. I downloaded Spotify and the Edinburgh 10k route coach thing to give me a fresh playlist and something to think about. Not all the playlist suited but there were some fresh songs which was good, the route coach was shall we say different, it got sounded out sometimes as the transition from music was not the best but it did give a different dimension which is what I needed and getting told I was kicking ass by a dalek was certainly refreshing.
I managed to trim 2 mins and 16seconds off my time coming in at 1:07:06 which I was happy about.
I would like to say a special thanks to all who have supported the group both on here and Strava and a special thanks to the organisers and moderators on this forum which is an amazing place to be when it comes to running.
That's a really excellent PB - congratulations! It's very normal to feel the blues after aiming for something like a HM or FM. Often the best thing to do is to take it easy and find running for fun again. Sometimes I have signed up for a monthly distance challenge just to make sure I get out and run something regularly. Other times I've signed up for another event, but these days I'm better at taking a month or so to just pootle about and enjoy the run for the run itself. You'll find something to suit you, but no pressure!
Hello runners couldn't do today so done my 10km yesterday, haven't done 10km for a while so this was a good excuse to get out there. Enjoy your running today everyone ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Fantastic, well done!!! There's a results post here healthunlocked.com/marathon... where you can add your result in a comment there with all the others! I'll add you to the results spreadsheet now.
10k done on a lovely sunny morning here. Ran in 1 hour 11 minutes, which is a bit slow for me but I kept the hills in the route and it was hot so I'm happy enough. Next stop, virtual half for my postponed San Sebastiรกn run in April and then, hopefully, the real thing in San Seb. and Valencia (both in October). SO looking forward to that...
