Hello everyone, very excited to be part of this group, hope I'm posting in the right place!

Thank you roseabi for all the info you posted and links to different training plans, it was really useful. 🙂 Rest day yesterday so ideal opportunity to check them out. I'm leaning towards a run walk plan and running within designated Heart Rate Zones, especially in this heat. I've decided that covering distance comfortably outweighs my desire for pace.

This morning it was already 24 degrees at 7am. Set my intervals for a 4min run followed by 1 min walk X 6, really pleased with the result, managed to keep the entire run in HRZ 2. Despite the heat it was a comfortable run. Will exeriment with the interval times and introduce some speed work too.

Has anyone else decided how they are going to approach the HM training and how are you coping with the hot weather? Happy running. 🙂

Well done, sounds like you had an amazing run!!

I try to tell myself that the hot weather is a gift, because running in the heat improves the efficiency of our heart and lungs, and acclimatises us to a range of temperatures - you never know what it will be like on race day! But we do have to be careful! Put on plenty of sun block, plan to run at cooler times of day, find shady routes, dress lightly, take plenty of water, slow down your pace, and have a nice cool shower afterwards xxx

You’re right we can’t choose race day conditions, I will embrace the positive!

Wow well done! It was 19 degrees at 6:30AM already this morning when I went out for my run, here and I had a bit of a rough one to be honest because of the heat. Still, I managed to push through and get it done!

In terms of HM training, I'm following a runner's world training plan. I followed their beginner plan for my last hm and now I'm going to follow their sub 02:30:00 plan for my next hm! How about you? :-)

Yes the heats a killer. Having read roseabi’s reply I will have to put my positive hat on and tell myself that heat is a good thing. 😄

I’m going to try roseabi’s HM plan, but the longer runs will include a run/walk element. Hoping that’s going to work for me.

Sub 02:30:00 wow 😄 go for it! I’ll be happy to cross the finish line, I only started running in Feb 2020.

Cool! Yeah that was my aim for my first hm, just to get round especially as my training didn't go so smoothly with a hospital visit thrown in there! Hioe you enjoy your hm journey! 😀

You are guaranteed a PB whatever your time - make the most of it 🙃

Well done running intervals - super well done for doing them in this heat 👍

I’ve really struggled to find the ‘right’ training plan for the HM and am actually just following the wise words of linda9389 and simply extending my ‘long’ run each week. Started this week with an 11k completed........... I’m looking forward to today’s 5k though!!

I think this will also be my strategy. A couple of 5ks and one long run each week with the long run being extended every week!

11k in the heat, that’s very impressive, well done! 👍 Hope your 5k goes well too.

I know what you mean about the training plans, there were elements that I liked about all of them but I’ve decided to mix and match, extending my run each week too. There were some wise words about occasionally 'stepping back' the long run to give yourself a bit of time to consolidate.

Don’t forget about run/walk to help you to increase your long run distance.

Thanks - I’m trying to remember to slow down too when looking to run further. I appreciate the advice
