Two years ago and following GA at my nearest Up and Running branch I kicked off with Brooks Ravenna with some support. They have served me well.Today I noticed for the first time the upper mesh has detached on my right shoe. They will be going in the bucket.
Looking to do some homework on the huge choice and get some benefits to help me with a trotting marathon.Want to avoid complicating the optional benefits also, like surfaces and run types also. Maximise cushioning and comfort to help an old snail cope with the duration requirement.
Need to get these quickly.Meantime I will run in the Park with my Saucony Everun’s and try out my On Cloudflyer’s on longer runs and hard surfaces.

If the old shoes served you well, maybe getting the new model of the old ones is an option? Before l changed mine l did another GA test (all was fine) and checked on my custom cut insoles, making sure they still fit my feet inside the new shoes (all fine there as well). I'd say, if a dentist, a hair stylist and a shoe maker all serve you well, why would you take unnecessary risk and change them, eh? 😉
Thanks mrrun.Sound advice.I am going to have the GA repeated at my local branch in Chester.I think Brooks and others have introduced further supporting improvements.🤔👍👏👏
I find the Brooks running shoes I have are very comfortable for running, I bought them last April and I have had no problems with them, they are so valuable that when I am out running I jump over any very muddy parts or big puddles, they are like little babies to me, ha.
I was thinking once I have had them a year, this April I'll go to the specialist sports shop in Glasgow and buy a pair of trail shoes that are meant to get dirty when running, I can then go to parkruns where it is a bit muddy and not worry too much about having to jump over puddles or muddy bits, I hope you are keeping well Tbae
I loved my Brooks Cascadia 8 trail shoes. I wore them to the bitter end. I cried when I had to bin them. They were beyond help by then The later iterations were just too narrow, so we parted company
I had a pair of Glycerines. They were hell on my Achilles so I took a stanley knife to the backs I find them too high (heel offset) so post shin splints I switched to lower drop shoes
The Brooks are really well made though and the uppers are very good. Saucony seem to be made of paper!
Gosh your comments are very helpful MW.The Saucony made me laugh, that explains why my big toe went through my left shoe.I was lucky they replaced them and then I was more particular about nail cutting.🙈🤣
I can see I am going to have to get more clued up before committing.
Both my big toes seem to point upwards. Dorsiflexion I think it’s called. Older toes I fear 🙂. The Saucony’s seem to have the flimsiest uppers Nike have been good and the Altra’s in that regard
In addition to the advice already give, I would suggest you also try the Asics Kayano as they are a stability shoes witg good cushioning. I do believe they are for pronation which may not suit you but likely there will be a neutral equivalent.
Saucony EverRun what? Isn't there a name after the EverRun, like Kinvara or Triumph?
Me too! I'm on the hunt but I'm flat broke as per so I'm online browsing at the mo. My Kinvaras have a big hole in each toe end and my Torin's are holed in the soles. I have one decent pair of Nike Pegasus but saving those for shorter races
I want a long run shoe so am looking at either a Saucony Triumph or an Altra Torin. Topo looks quite nice but apparo the Altra is more luxurious, which is good on long runs
I find it easier to shop according to the price and size. That narrows down the field to very little so makes the choice easier I've found a pair of each for under £100 for the two Waiting til month end and hoping they're still available
I love the Altra Torin for long runs but I do get blisters I think it's possibly to do with bunions which are forcing my toes to bend and then interfere with the adjacent toe. They are supremely comfy I have worn mine to death but now they're leaking like sieves I washed them the other day and am retiring them to pastures new.
I shop by heel offset size too. I like anything lower than 10 mm. Nearer to
8 mm if possible - the Torins are zero drop
I tried on a Nike Vomero. They are dead cushiony but they are always too dear for me Mizuno Wave series seem popular and I noticed some of those on offer
If you want cushioning try Hoka. I love mine. I need stability so I have Gaviotas. They're only a 5mm drop though which is good for knee issues but not do good if you suffer with foot or heel problems. But boing boing though! So bouncy!
So many choices. I’ve been loving my Saucony Breakthrus. My Kinvaras are great and fast too, though they wear quickly. Many people I know love their Hoka Cliftons too. Good luck!
Funny Decker senior years don’t come alone.🙈 I want to buy wings for my feet,🙈🤣 I have to fight off the negativity and the stupidity and dismiss the element and self imposed last buy mentality and get real and up-to speed with what’s on offer that will carry me to my once in a lifetime marathon.🙈🤣🤣
