So I have been thinking on it lately, and I think I am just going to do it. I'm going to commit to training for a half marathon (even typing that out just kinda feels weird). I want to do the one in Jordan, but that is not until September, and I need to organise travel plans etc etc, so meanwhile I am going to aim for the Goldfields Pipeline Run in Kalgoorlie in July - I lived out in Kalgoorlie for a few years, so it would be a good reason to head back out there for the weekend!
I am currently repeating the Bridge to 10K - but the distance version this time, and then I have mocked up a plan to get to 10 miles by early June - this includes a few step backs because I want to take it nice and slow and avoid any injuries.
In the meantime, I have signed up for a 10K race in April, and then in May there is the Wings for Life Run which sounds really fun - instead of being a set distance you just run as far as you can before the catcher car catches up to you. Which I think will be a little bit of fun - apparently it is run at the same time all around the world, so it will be a night run for me! Has anyone else heard of or completed this one before?
Anyway, now that it is written down and on the internet forevermore I cant back out! So wish me luck!!

Brilliant decision and the public commitment is a smart move! It's great fun and comes with a fantastic sense of achievement. Take your time as you say, and enjoy. Lots of training and racing tips in our HU half marathon group posts that you might find helpful (see pinned posts for the latest one, which in turn contains links to all the previous ones). Good luck 🙂
Woohooo! Love it, love it, love it! Wings for Life is awesome! We’ve done it (that’s me and my OH) twice before here in Cambridge in the UK, it’s one of the best events we’ve ever done.
And to think I will know someone will be doing exactly the same in Perth will be so exciting! I found it quite emotional actually, when you think of the amount of people all doing exactly the same thing at the same time around the world, and you’re part of it.....
Good luck with your training, I’m sure you’ll smash it!
This is a brilliant way to make yourself accountable to these events! I was umming and ahhing about the London Winter Run, I don’t know why I just went ahead and booked it and then there was nothing but excitement! I guess it helps when you’ve already done those distances in training there is less pressure.
I wish you the best and look forward to follow on reports on updates on how it’s going!
Good luck, but you won’t need it, you’ve got this!
I did the Great North Run as my first half marathon and can throughly recommend it. I was a very new runner ( still am!) and was worried I'd be picked up by the weeper bus and finish last. I didn't , and I was well chuffed - several thousand people finished behind me. It was a fantastically well organised race, brilliant atmosphere and great for cutting your teeth on. It was such a great experience it gave me the confidence to do more and I've signed up for another three races this year as a result. Go for it! The ballot is open now! You won't regret it.
