I picked up my bib and race material at the expo. I was nervous and excited at the same time. The people were very nice and helpful. There were other runners everywhere. That morning, while I was walking towards my hotel, they were conducting a 5k. The fastest runners were in front with cameras following them. It was amazing to see these professional athletes perform. They were really flying! The next day was the actual marathon. We got on the ferry to Staten Island where the start was. I ran wave 4 at 11 am. After the singing of the American anthem the horn went off. Over the Verrazano bridge we went. Music was blaring and the energy was high. Along the way of the course, there were crowds cheering and band playing. As I approached the last miles, I became extremely thirsty. My legs ached but I jogged on. A lot of people would walk and run. It was wave 4 and the faster more fit runners started earlier and finished faster. I was nervous about my injury thinking it was going to reoccur but it didn’t. I sucked down some gels along the way and drank a lot of Gatorade and water. I stopped twice for the porta potties during the race. I finished at Central Park. There was a huge crowd cheering me along the way. My official time was 5 hrs 14 minutes 47 seconds. We walked along and received our medal, a goodie bag, and NYRR race poncho. I admit being extremely thirsty and nauseous afterwards. After the train ride home I threw up in the toilet! It was worth it!

Pleased to hear your injury did not flare up too.

Sounds like you got a little dehydrated though, how are you feeling now?

It’s normal I’m sure for running so long and far.
