Legs weren’t in it at any point. Slower than I’d hoped. Hills no one tells you about. But I did it! Today it’s 18 months since graduating Couch to 5k. Yesterday I ran a marathon!

(Open the photo to see what’s printed on the back of my tshirt 🤣)

Absolutely unbelievable Tasha! I can’t fathom running a marathon and for you to go from couch2marathon in 18 months is nothing short of miraculous! You are epic. Well done! 🎉💪🏅🏃‍♀️👍

Fantastic! Well done that lass! 👍🏻💪🏻😁 it's not really about the legs, it's all in the mindset! 🤣😉

Definitely mind games! First half I felt awful and was telling my friends to go off with out me but they stuck with me. Once I got over the half way mark, mentally I was stronger despite the legs! Would like to try a flat one one day!

GoGo_JoJo profile image

I would dread a flat one, too much time for your body to complain! 🤣🤣🤣

I agree about flat JoJo. All the same muscles being used over and over again with no variation. I can’t believe I actually find hilly runs easier!

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

It is easier for the mind as you need to pay attention to your feet, all flat parts I have found an awful drag, just wanted to stop and sit down! 🙈🤣

I find that the further you run, the longer the toxic 10 lasts 🤣🤣

Superb Tasha! It's an amazing achievement - all the more so given that you've been running for such a short time.

Might be too soon to ask but would you do it again? x

Well done Tasha!! That’s brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊. Love the shirt! I’m with you on the hills, I enjoy them on shorter runs but they are something else when they come late into a marathon and my legs just don’t have the strength left in them. Congratulations - you did it!! 😊

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Marathon in reply to Macmac

Exactly! Walked them all as otherwise would’ve broken myself earlier - big impact on time though doing that. Will do Manchester one day. Flat as a pancake.

Well done🎉🎉🎉🎉 That is great achievement in such a short space of time. I did the Yorkshire marathon too, this was my second marathon though. It’s a great event. Going for a walk will help relieve stiff legs (honestly!) I was too tired to anything yesterday after the marathon but after a walk and light jog today I feel almost back to normal.

How did it go? I thought of you too 🤣

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to Tasha99

It went well! The weather was great. I was in a great mental zone till 30k and then had to fight through the wall, but had just a little left for a sprint right at the end. Would you believe I've already applied for the Chicago marathon lottery this morning! :).

How did you find it going on yours?

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Marathon in reply to Decker

My legs weren’t in it from the start. It was awful for the first half! Wasn’t sure I could do it. Once I’d got past the halfway mark, mentally I was back on track. Walked the hills as didn’t want to risk finishing myself off. Legs were so stiff though but ran walked to the end. Would like to have a go at somewhere flat.

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to Tasha99

Wow, then you really mentally pushed the entire time! That takes immense willpower. Good for you. You are stronger for it now. Our course was fairly flat except for a big highway overpass at 37 and again at 39k. I got strangely emotional a few times towards the end. Marathons are weird. Proud of you. Well done!
