This weather is a real pain just now, it just can't decide if it wants to be hot, wet, windy or all three! I got very muddy on my recent run, but I guess that's all part of the fun... my poor Cloudflyers do look a little sad now though 😅
Any running adventures to report back on from the weekend? What are your plans for the rest of the weeK?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Happy running!

My massage, which was supposed to be last Weds, was postponed to this morning, and the verdict was great given both my increased physical work load and my recent activities.
Really pleased with my progression and so much fun had. If it's not fun then it's just not worth it 😁
We've got mum-in-law with us this week so not sure what I'll be able to manage but already looking at new routes for exploring 👍🏻😁
I had a good seaside running weekend, parkrun at Ryde ;where I bumped into C3PO and her family over on holiday , then Sunday morming marshalling our clubs 10mile race then jumping in car to do the 5k "dash and splash " beach race shanklin to yaverland bumping into C3P0 and family again ! And then saw them at the cafe too later on ! Health unlocked forum outing!!
I was really surprised! I thought I'd done a couple of parkruns this year, plus one volunteering stint. Turns out I'd only done the volunteer bit - must be losing my marbles 😄
I found some new trails in my neighbourhood, which I posted about. It is getting very hot here again and my plan is calling for bigger mileage next week (25k). I have been trying to maintain my 20k minimum long run since Jan. Happy trails peeps!
A busy weekend on call curtailed any weekend running after Friday's hot 16k trail run but I am hoping to get 4 runs in this week to make up for my missed weekend run. The heat only broke for one day and it's heating up again with more thunderstorms in the forecast. Oh well; the good news is I'll be back at the lake for the weekend and will hopefully get 2 trail runs in while there. One run is quite short so hopefully my hubby will join me on that one again.
I managed to do parkrun very slowly (36 minutes) and wet. But I ran all of it and no pain apart tiredness. Who thought running so far is a good idea! Still will do it again next week.
Still trying to swim a couple of times a week and I can attend two physio classes now the kids are off and might try and get out in the bike one night hopefully without falling off.
This week I’m doing my 18k long run. Aren’t I Beachcomber66 ?! We made a deal yesterday after my grumbling about the heat post! He has a long run planned this week too! 👍🏃
I simply don’t do well in the heat. I wilt. 🥵Yesterday’s post included a screenshot of my perfect “positive” splits over 5k. I was cross with myself, so I did a separate extra 1k slightly faster as penance! Shame because today it’s raining for the first time in ages here in the SW, and I’d love to be out in it. But no such luck. Tomorrow is my long run day and it’s supposed to be dry - albeit grey so hopefully not too warm. 🤞
Reading everyone else’s posts definitely spurs me on though. The power of HU at work. 👊❤️
Good luck with your long run! It’s supposed to be my18k this week too. The weather here is crazy hot and humid . It’s looking like Thursday morning will be my best bet for the long run.
Last week was my busiest running week in a long time, with 5 runs! This was mostly because my long run on Wednesday didn’t go to plan. Maybe it was the heat?😜
It was really good to catch up with aliboo70 at the weekend, and discover the really nice cafe we both went to after the Dash and Splash.
My feet felt pretty tired last week, so I’m going to try to be sensible and do my long run later on this week.
Did you go into the caff at Yaverland beach? I went there after my long coastal path run. It’s lovely there isn’t it. Well done matey. I hope you had a lovely time
Changed my long run back from Fridays to Sundays as my work shedule changes now the school run is not needed for the summer. I have missed a couple of runs, so its time to get back to routine. Still well on course to complete1,000k I pledged this year though.
I'm definitely not going to make my strava 1000k now, despite being ahead of target until quite recently. I also paid up for a virtual 1000km challenge at the start of the year - luckily that allows cycling as well as running so I've probably achieved that one. Feels a bit like cheating though
Been a bit meh lately due to weather being too hot to run ( for me anyway) so I ran last Monday then not again till Saturday but then I only did a short run as I was doing my first volunteer stint at ParkRun and thoroughly enjoyed that,by the way. Then didn’t go out again until today for a 5k. But I’m planning my long run for Thursday (18k) if all goes well so looking forward to that. At least I’m sleeping better now and feeling the benefits of that too. And I’ll either volunteer again or run ParkRun depending in the forecast.
My Cloudflyers are soaked too after today’s monsoon run, though nothing packing with newspaper won’t fix.
Anyone who ran any great distance in that heat last week has my admiration. Circumstances meant I couldn’t run between the last two Saturday parkrun’s, but to be honest I wasn’t seriously bothered!
A lovely rainy parkrun on Saturday though, and back out for a first longer run (23km) in a couple of weeks yesterday. Even at 21 degrees I found it heavy going, but maybe I’ll put that down to the extended break from HM distance. A friend was trying to get me to do a 30km trail this Sunday; tempting but I think that’s come a bit too early for me. Next time. Any recommendations for reasonably priced trail shoes?
Check out start fitness online, as long as you know your size, they carry older models at bargain prices. I've have 2 pairs of Sauconys from them at better than 1/2 price
Thanks JoJo, I'll take a look. Older models of decent shoes were exactly what I had in mind. They'll instantly turn me into a 22 mile trail running legend, right?
Still not running (closest I got was PR volunteering), and even had to abandon my couch to walking plan last week as foot pain got way worse again. Hey ho! On the plus side my cycling is proving very enjoyable. Had a fab ride on Sunday - love plotting a new route and then going exploring, and so long as I can get a short ride in tomorrow (too wet today) I will make 600k this month. Missing the events and races and training though .... so seem to have succumbed to entering a cycle event - Women v cancer ride the night 2020 - 100k in London through the night! Yup, I am officially barmy! Have never cycled that distance before during the day, let alone at night 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Haha! They keep trying to persuade me at running club. Some of them do triathlons and whilst I'd love to diversify my cross training I don't think they fully appreciate how bad my cycling and swimming are 🤣
I'm quite tempted by the idea of a duathlon - especially while building running back up as it would involve less distance on my feet. But when I looked I could only find quite serious ones and I think my bike and I would get laughed out of the park (a friend who has done triathlons confessed she borrows a road bike for the race rather than turn up with her hybrid and paniers) 🤣🤣🤣
Do try cycling though - I'm definitely hoping to make it a cross training feature one I can run again (so much nicer than swimming when the weather is reasonable).
I had noticed you were clearly enjoying running more than cycling 😀. The weather is likely to have turned by the time I'm back on my feet again so I imagine my cycling will go on pause too. Hoping I pick it up again next year tho. We'll see!
Hi Linda 👋. I sent you a telepathic message today. I was running with a podcast with two Nike runners and they said we had to take time to think about someone we knew who was injured and couldn’t run So i sent you healing vibes across the miles 😁👍🏃♀️ I thought you might be out on your bike 🙂
Ahhh, that's really, really lovely - thank you! I wimped out in the heavy rain we had today - but I did a couple of 'hurt foot fitness' routines and I'll be back out there tomorrow for my last few kms of July. Hope you didn't get too wet!
I ran in the sun ☀️. The clouds were gorgeous barrels of cotton wool but turning darker as I got closer to home. Just managed to get back in before it threw it down 😃
Great Pyramid Session with my running club at the track last night. My legs were dead during the warm up and I was dreading it but somehow they came to life and I ended up posting some of my fastest stats 😁
Interestingly our coach said that the biggest mistakes people make in training are not only running too fast but also running too slowly. I'm working hard to get the balance right - Beachy training runs are being done slowly as are my club runs, track and efforts as fast as I can and I'm going to try and throw a few tempo runs in at park run too. Hoping to see my 5k times come down by the end of the year 🤞
Busy running last week and this week. Got another long run this weekend My feet are getting a bit battered though despite rotating my shoes Too much stony trail i think 🤔
I enjoyed feeling the sun, warm on my back today 🌝
I have been continuing with my Marathon training for October. Last week I only managed a 10k run midweek due to the heat, and volunteered as a marshal at a local race and parkrun as a timekeeper. Was glad to get a long run in on Saturday in the pouring rain and achieved the 14 miles as per my plan which felt good. First time I have ever experienced any chafing in nearly 2 years of running though, due to a soaking wet shirt, and I’m not a fan of soggy socks, so I certainly learnt from this long run for marathon day..
Yes, I was ok until about mile 12 and thought 2 more miles is ok but I would not want to be doing another 14 in these conditions. So I’ll probably invest in some nipeaze and sealskinz waterproof socks in case it is wet on the day.
I use bodyglide on all my toes before every long run (over 9 miles). I wasn't keen on the sealskinz as they were a bit bulky but my Dexshell ultrathin waterproof socks are the business in winter!
