Training done but a bit worried πŸ˜‰

So .. I have done my training .. a little hit and miss along the way with forced breaks during February and a week in May but this weekend I ran (well that's what I call it) 19k ... so close I can almost see the finish line.

Recently I have discovered a new YouTube channel called The Running Channel and watched one of their uploads "What to expect on race day" youtu.be/8rv84F9Vtm0 - it seemed like a good idea as other than my Santa Run last December this will be my first proper race event. The major take away was nothing new on race day!!

So ...

- I have put off buying new running shoes until after my HM,

- I have done my long runs on a bowl of Porridge as planned for race day

- and played with flap jacks and gels to try and get my fuelling right

But now with the only PM I have ever run under and no chance for a practice run between her resignation on Friday 7th and the Sunday HM should I be concerned!!

So long as the weather stays relatively cool on the day I think I will cope with the change in PM - here's hoping for no other surprises for race day.

Ha ha. Concentrate on your running. The peripheral hoo-ha can sort itself out while you hone in on the day itself. Race day is fun! Hang loose, chill. Set out to enjoy yourself. It's another run, You've done loads of them. Porridge is a great start. My go-to breakfast running fuel.

I am racing on Sunday! Just down the road which makes life easier. I will probably walk or hop on the bus if there is one

Good luck with your race day food prep etc. Enjoy your tapering time!

Thanks MW especially for the words "Race Day Is Fun" I will hold that one alongside "Nothing New On Race Day"

It is fun! I know we are serious about our training and looking after our health etc etc but we're not professionals at the end of the day. I do it for fun, nothing else. Well, 'cept cake perhaps

Thank you I will try πŸ˜‰ I so want to run the whole thing and not walk but I know I would probably enjoy it more if I did a bit of run walk.

Good luck Richard you will be great.

Loved your video and mention of the great EK., smiling.

He wears on his wrist band 4 words,Humans are not limited.

Never done an official event, only one solo HM.Best tip I got then from JuJu, reward system every 5k.πŸ€”

It’s great you have done 19k.I was trotting so slowly only prepared upto 15k or 2.5 hours.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£.So

on the day I just had to hang strong/ tough for the last 6k+ πŸ’ͺ

Atb Richard.

Thanks Bob - I love the Humans are not limited although my legs need some convincing πŸ˜€. I think time is the key. I remember when 10k was a long run last year and now...! I think mental attitude is so important to keep you going to the very end when it seems tough going πŸ‘

Yes right on Richard.πŸ‘

But you have good pace and have done 19k.Nothing new on race day.Love it.

I was trotting along last year at 10 mins/ km so 3.5 hours solo.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

Never had music, just my ruck sack with water and fuel and reward every 5k without stopping, was frightened to stopπŸ™ˆ in case I would not start, 7x3k round the park plus a little bit, I actually think I counted 1234 for 3.5 hours.Mad as a March hare. But I trotted every step of the way.

You will be great Richard.

I had to read that thrice to figure out what you were on about! 🀣🀣🀣 I thought this was a politic-free zone! 🀣🀣🀣

Def wait on the shoes. No major changes before!

Good luck! πŸ‘πŸ€žπŸ˜

🀭 deliberately cloaked post - no judgements/hustings/etc just a coincidence that jumped at me πŸ˜€. Looking forward to treating myself to new shoes. πŸ‘Ÿ

New shoe time is always great! You could buy them early... and put on after your event! πŸ€”πŸ˜
