I currently work as an audio typist three days a week (Mon to Wednesday). The hours are great however I am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow even for two days! I have to get up early and leave the house about 6.30am to catch the bus and I am lucky if I am home before 6pm. Its long day. I have had enough. It doesn't help when people say you should be grateful to have a job. The way I feel atm if anyone wants it they are welcome to it. Going away on Thursday and back Monday and can't wait!

How to survive in a job you no longer want to do
Be careful regarding your work, better not leave your present job until you find another job, you don't work Thursday to Sunday, so on those days you could go 'job searching',
I am sure there are plenty of people who could fill in your vacancy once you leave your present employment, but first find another job.
Don't worry I wouldn't do that. Trouble is finding something closer to home with the same hours. This feeling comes and goes. I can be fine for weeks then all of a sudden I can't wait to find somewhere else. Doing my running events keeps me sane as I usually book the Monday after the event off (they are always on Sunday) and sometimes the Tuesday. The shorter the week the better.
Oh no. Not liking your job is the worst feeling ever.
First of all - audio typist, wow! That's a really tough job. I did a fair bit of transcribing interviews for social scientists back in the day, and I was always wiped out afterwards. I can't imagine doing it full time. .
I had a job I hated years ago - university admin. I loved my colleague, but I just didn't enjoy the work. The situation really motivated me to finish my education so that I was able to move into a completely different kind of job, one that I really liked. Is there any chance you could do some retraining on the side? I think life became much better for the people around me once I was able to leave my job.
Good luck! You have my sympathies.
sorry, I don't really have any advice.. that's not already been given
But I do know how you feel
good luck
Nothing worse than a job you detest. I've walked out of several jobs and never regretted it for a second. I was an audio typist for a while, though I wasn't supposed to have been. I'd interviewed for something else. What a trick! So, I voted with my feet. I am a believer in "as one door closes, another one opens" Keep your eyes and ears open for fresh opportunities. You never know what's around the corner.
Good luck
I actually read "How to survive a run you no longer want to do" at first glance! Probably Freudian... I'll get mi coat...
Lol
It's a tough one... and it's how I ended up driving trucks. I was being bullied by my boss in my last job, a job I had loved and enjoyed. 3 days a week, hours suited, good money but he started making my life miserable so on my off days I got my HGV class 2 and 1 licenses. Did a few days on off days to see if I could really do it and the next time he let loose I handed in my notice.
Never regretted it since and that's 5 years ago now. I work 4 days week 1 and 5 days on the following. I earn a bit less but I have so much more fun.
Life is way too short to be stuck in an unhappy situation. In general we spend more of our time at work than at home, you need to be getting something other than remuneration back.
I hope the answer is round the next corner π
I entirely agree that life is too short to tolerate a bad work situation- you spend a significant proportion of your time there. I went self employed when I had my second baby and I was in a job where I was being bullied/marginalised, which impacted on my self esteem and confidence. This has been the best thing I ever did. Not always easy (the famous weekend when I had to cash all of the change in the house- including my children's piggy banks - will stand out as a low point!).
Obviously, no one can advise you what you should do in your circumstances, but man you can run a long way which suggests that you are a tenacious and determined character! Good luck
Not happy in your work must be horrid. We have to work to live and for such a long time...
Maybe start looking around on your none work days... see what else is out there.. Are you registered on job search sites... there may be other stuff you could do in a similar line, for the same hours?
Just doing that may make the work days seem easier...you are such a strong and determined lady... I know you will find something eventually!
What about working from home... currently there is a huge amount of work available for home based work...my own daughter considered this for a while

Sorry for the delay in replying to your comment. I go through phases where work is fine and then all of a sudden I can't bear the thought of going back. I have been away for four nights although Thursday and Friday I don't work same as weekend and got back today.
