After a couple weeks of everything falling into place and some awesome runs, life and work got in the way resulting in me just trying to keep my head above water and running not happening. But I'm ahead on my training plan, and even if I wasn't, that's A-ok. I have read this article before, but it popped up on my Pinterest feed in a timely manner reminding me that in the grand scheme of things, it's ok and just keep trucking along.

relentlessforwardcommotion....

I'm looking forward to heading out with my hubby a little later this morning for a run where we'll see if the mountain bike course is dry enough to run on ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž. It's time to get off-road for a bit.

Good article that puts everything in perspective. Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re ahead on your plan. ๐Ÿ˜Š I hope your off road plan for today works out! I remember how much you enjoy the trails.

Iโ€™m struggling to get out the door to run lately. I think itโ€™s the endless bad weather. I do run, but it takes forever to get out there. I havenโ€™t started my plan yet since my HM is the end of August. Iโ€™m just trying to consistently run 3 times a week and mostly doing it.

The weather sure has put a damper on things but hopefully soon we'll be in full-on spring making it easier to be consistent. Having a consistent base in place will help once you start your plan, for sure.

My trail race isn't until September but I've got it set in my mind that I need to be able to run a HM before I start my training plan for it. Then I'm just worried about elevation change and incorporating hills while building back up to distance instead of building distance and hills at the same time. Hopefully I can reach the HM distance by the end of next month but work is getting stupid busy again with lots of unpredictable emergencies so time will tell, I guess. I was glad to have a cushion on my plan but it looks like after this week, my cushion is gone. Oh well. It is what it is and I'll need to remember this article when and if I get behind. I'm just looking forward to some sun runs without ice and snow. I'm actually looking forward to my first rainy run ๐Ÿ™‚

So very true, whatever level we are running at. Goals are good and I try to be disciplined but life does have an ebb and flow!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™‚

That was a good read. I realised through my recent HM training that things can and will go wrong, but that there are good and bad ways to deal with the curveballs. I did get very frustrated though!

Good luck to you finding the time you need for your plan.

Thanks Linda. My next run is supposed to be a 10.5k run on Sunday but I start call in 5hours that will extend to Monday morning and I have a full work day tomorrow so I don't often get those Sunday runs in ๐Ÿ˜ข. It may be my first missed run of the plan but we'll see how the next 36hours go. Maybe I can get up early Sunday morning and run laps around my neighbourhood .....or just accept a missed run. Time will tell but it sure made for a timely read since I have been stressing about it a bit. The thing is, I'm not running a race for the HM, I'm just trying to run the distance so it should, in theory, be less stressful.....

We're all great at putting pressure on ourselves aren't we! I had to skip some runs but I tried to be smart about which ones I skipped - making the best of a bad job! As you say, you do have a little extra flexibility given this is a sort of pre-race plan plan :D The one absolute is that stressing about it doesn't help :D

That's a fantastic article Saskie. I am going to remember the idea of putting a little bit of money in the piggy bank, even if it's not the planned amount. You're a consistent runner so that is what will get you to your HM distance, even if you don't get every 10km or 15km or even 5km run done. Hope you can take care of yourself with your busy work schedule and factor in some treats for yourself - very important !

Great article. It has given me permission to not feel guilty. Itโ€™s the big picture that matters. Life does hit a few speed bumps, we slow down and stall and the article is right, we are still heading in the right general direction.

It was a good run but the course was really slick when we got off the portion that was gravelled (the mountain bike course is still being built) so we ran 2 k on there and then dumped hubby off, got the majority of the mud off my shoes and finished my run. It felt pretty good at the time but it feels like Iโ€™m coming down with something now - sore throat that isnโ€™t responding to any meds at all ๐Ÿ˜–. I was working really close for the last 2 days with a tech that has been sick for quite a while now. Looks like itโ€™s my turn now ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ˜ท. Oh well. Such is life. I might have to re-read this article again next week to remind myself it is A-ok ๐Ÿ˜

It is nice to have something to work towards to keep us on track running consistently, but it sure can backfire and become a chore if you're always trying to run further and faster. That is why I really enjoy my trails. I know I'm slow, I know I'll hike the hills, but I work hard, I take time to stop and take in the view (and take yet another selfie ๐Ÿ™„) and enjoy the feeling I get from being out there. I think that is why I put some pressure on myself to reach the HM distance before I start my training for the trail race, so I know I can run 20k, I can hike and run a hilly 20 and not worry about "can I?". I've read a few of her blogs and I quite enjoy them.

It's a great reminder to put things in perspective. Since I've posted it, I've come down with a very nasty cold so I'll be lucky to get any runs in. I just re-read it again and know once I feel better I'll just listen to my body and run what I can...and hopefully run that HM by the end of April
