Goooood morning good morning good morning good morning!!

I hope you aren't feeling too frazzled after that windy night!

And a huge well done to everyone who ran a race yesterday in the company of Freya!!

Storm or not, there were LOADS of you running in events yesterday, and I've seen some cool things on Strava. Really looking forward to those RACE REPORTS!!!

But also...

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion 😊

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running, lovely people!

I managed to get up onto the South Downs for a 21.2 km-er last week, which was fab! Failed to hit my target for the Speed Challenge, but still I'm looking good for a 5k pb soon I think, so I'll keep at it. Also had a swim and two strength sessions.

Tired today after being woken up by wind crashing around our flat, but I'll crack on with my race pace run today (after another coffee, I suspect).

Have a good week, all! xx

Me too πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

I am putting my current one to bed with a few more recovery runs, and then on to the next one. Not sure what it is yet 😁

Not improving 5K times.. must try harder...:)

Did my longest run ever yesterday and set for another long one at the Coast, at the end of the week... :)

Well done all the racers... and happy, safe running everyone!

PS

I think I need some new leggings to celebrate my first 10 Mile run :)

Back into my winter leggings this morning πŸ₯Ά. I noticed runners in shorts yesterday with very red legs 😬 I had capris on and was fine πŸ™‚

Oldfloss profile image

You did brilliantly in your Ashbourne Race!

It is gorgeous here today but really chilly.. and I think I shall buy new longer ones.. those Monsal Trail tunnels were freezing the other day!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to Oldfloss

I have loads of long tights, some winter weight jobs which are lush. Wore mine today, along with my merino long-sleeve top and windproof gilet and run jacket, headband and another headband over that, plus my hood up. It was flipping blowing out there. Got the heating on now

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator in reply to misswobble

I went out with my warmer leggings merino top and gilet on..too..just for a little leg stretch..the gilet is the one you flagged up ! Brilliant...don't know how some folk run in shorts this weather!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to Oldfloss

me neither. I felt very cold by the time i got back today. glad of a hot lunch and hot drinks. the gilet is a bit of all right int it. I think it will come into its own in summer too as it's so light, and I'll be able to tote plenty of snacks in it, and stash my empty water bottle instead of down my front, which I did yesterday on my race.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator in reply to misswobble

I think its ace and the price too!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to Oldfloss

I know! Bargain. I got two pairs of tights too - the same trail jobs but one a tight and the other capris. Lots of pockets for stashing snacks. My husband got me a pair and my son the other ones. They were both in the sale too at bargain prices. They look very nice on too. Charcoal, lilac, grey, orangey pink trim round the pockets. Extra small!!!!!!! Crikey, how times have changed

Oldfloss profile image

Too true..just packing ready to head to the coast ..first time since December..what am I packing??? Running gear..for cold and warmer or wetter running!!! Hoping to get a long run in at the end of the week..!

lovely to run by the sea! I am trying to persuade my niece to do Cleethorpes parkrun. Might just go and do the thing if she won't bite

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator in reply to misswobble

Go for it..I'm planning 18K..gulp..coming down from Penrhyndeudraeth..past Port Meirion...over the Cob at Porthmadog..then a slow slog up to the hill above Criccieth..and then down...yeayyy and along the coastal path towards Pwhelli...I figure the Monsal Trail although a slow steady incline on the way out..may prove easier after all my uphill exploits!! Fingers crossed!!

You go to Cleethorpes..go run by the sea!!

This was a busy weekend for races! Hope everyone was happy with their runs. I managed to finally get past 21k on Saturday, with a slower 25. My 30k race is at the end of this month. Time flies! No time goals for the race, just want to complete it in one piece. Also signed up for the 2020 Chili Half which is a great deal right now at only $60. (You get a nice long sleeve fleece and a bowl of chili plus a beer at the end too) It is a race I’ve wanted to do since I started running.

Surprisingly I don't feel too achey after my 10 miler yesterday. Trail running definitely seems to be kinder to your legs and feet. And there was the fact that I walked all the ridiculously muddy bits - I wasn't too bothered about my time, just didn't want to get injured before HM day. My niggly glute was niggling after a few km but didn't get as bad as before, no legs giving way, so I hope if I keep up the strength work and stretching I'll be ok for the HM. The weather was foul and so was the mud, but enjoyed it anyway, nice bit of practice for the big day! 😊

Happy injury-free running, peeps! πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

I went out for my longest run yet last Monday (I tried to post about it but the HU app is pretty good at losing posts halfway through so I gave up after a couple of fails πŸ˜„) at 15 miles. It was useful as it showed me quite how much harder it’s going to be to extend to full marathon distance. A good, if uncomfortable, run.

Then Saturday was parkrun at Witney on a work trip. As expected half the people who said they’d come with me got so trollied the night before they stayed in bed hungover. Two hardy souls came though and it’s a tricky course, so muddy that I would have been better off running in wellies. Lovely people though. Managed that around 25 mins. First finisher was a 11-14 year old girl - don’t see that very often; she must be a trail/cross country natural.

Then my 1 mile winter time trial run which felt unexpectedly great. Given that my main running aim this year (who am I kidding - my SOLE AIM IN LIFE) is a sub-20 parkrun, just the once, I’m happy to have sneaked under 4 min per km pace. Now I β€˜only’ need to do that for 3 times the distance. Hmm. πŸ€”

Happy running this week to you all.

misswobble profile image

Crikey! Sub 20!!!! Jaysus! I should cocoa that's practically profeshnul territory

Colinsmith profile image

My PB (on a billiard table flat course, with a run that very nearly did me in I should add) is 20:00. If I’d run just one second faster on that day, I could forget the whole silly idea and be a grown-up again. I’m usually around 22 mins.

Is it just me that running turns into a bit of an idiot?! 😜

linda9389 profile image

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to Colinsmith

😁😁😁. It got you that PB πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ. Take care, you don’t want to get crocked Don’t do parkrun every week if you can’t control your race instinct πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜Ž.

Colinsmith profile image
ColinsmithHalf Marathon in reply to misswobble

Heh. Honestly, on my lovely hilly home course I’m very sensible, and I’m always respectful of the runners around me of course. I only head to Hackney Marshes when the need for speed descends!

I’ve had 2 runs there since my PB (20:09 and 20:27 - ouch) so I’m now waiting til conditions are perfect. I may be overthinking this. 🀣

There should be a β€˜handicapping’ system for parkruns so as well as agegraded results you get a course-adjusted time. I wasn’t actually being serious when I started to write that, but now I come to think about it...

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon

Recovery run done this morning. Got to finish my current plan and then move onto the next one I think next up is the very hilly, dead 'ard 10k. All forgotten at the end when one face plants into the tea table. Best lemon drizzle this side of anywhere. This one is local, tiny and unmissable. Always the sun shines (she says hopefully)

Macmac profile image

I’ve been cranking up the hill work this week 😁 First a new parkrun on Saturday. Proper hilly, either up or down with virtually no flat bits! Then yesterday a 40km hike in the dales taking in 3 peaks and over 1400m elevation. Will do some gentle running over the next few days whilst I recover 😊

It's been so inspiring reading everyone's reports this week. I can't quite believe I have one long run left this week, a week skiing, then it's taper week! Crikey, how did that happen?

I plan to take my 22k on Thursday slow and steady (as slow as I can, bearing in mind I have to be at a client for three hours gardening afterwards 😯) with the intention of hopefully feeling confident at the end of it. My quad is still sore/stiff but much better than it was and my new thigh support is really comfy. The other knee is grumbling - that's my weaker leg and has probably been under too much duress while I've been compensating for the quad. Hey ho! It all just has to hang on for another three weeks. Oh wait! I just signed up for another half three weeks after that ... ah well. Fingers crossed 🀞 πŸ˜ƒ

ooh, which HM are you doing? Good luck, especially with your knee - I've never taped mine (whereas my quad has been taped for months!) but will be mentioning it to my sports massage guy when I go in a couple of weeks.

Hopefully excitement will win the day :)

I have stopped hobbling now, hooray! I'm going to take it a bit easy this week though because I have a giant, weird blister (I had a tape failure D: Realised when I got home after my race that I had accidentally stuck the corner to my sock, so it peeled a little and rubbed terribly in a straight line. I've got a perfectly geometric race injury! Should take my own flipping advice and not rush the leukotape application :( ) but I go on leave from tomorrow for THREE WEEKS, which will mostly consist of putting my life into boxes, but hopefully include a few runs too :D

It feels good to get back on track running. Almost finished week 2 of my shortened Runkeeper HM plan. Legs are heavy, times are slow but given I'm either slogging on the treadmill or running through snowbanks, I'm just happy to be running again. It looks like there may just be a warm up in my future, so perhaps it'll be slushy running for the next couple weeks as our snow melts away.
