I can see on our Events list that a lot of us are gearing up for races this weekend, and I'm anticipating the Beachy Head Marathon the weekend after - yay!!!! ๐๐๐
There are many things to love about Beachy, not least that they have provided a pre-race recipe on their website!
What's your favourite food the night before a race? Does your event's website have any recipes?
For my past two events, a slightly unorthodox combination of peppered and smoked mackerel and brown fusilli, with some sort of sauce. I don't eat much fish, my diet is predominantly vegetarian, but it seemed to do the job quite well so maybe it will permanently become my new pre-race meal ๐ I also enjoy a cheese and onion pasty if I'm working late the night before...
That's interesting, now I come to think of it I don't remember seeing much mention of fish as a pre-race dinner. Seems odd as it's nutritious, and also easily digestible I'd have thought!
I love smoked Mack. They made a smoked Mack past aNd sauce recipe on that beeb prog Eat Well for less last week. The nutritionist made it. Thought it sounded lush
I have salmon wholewheat pasta with roast vegetables for dinner before race day, Parmesan and fresh basil on top ๐. Itโs in hand for this Saturday evening ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
Interesting! I have an airbnb booked for the Saturday eve as I live a long way from the GSR. I will have access to a kitchen so thought I'd make up some pasta to take along and heat up. I might be spoiled for choice of ideas by the time this thread is done! Other than that, all I've organised is a girls night out on Friday (the last one with this group saw me confined to the couch with dry bread all the following day ). Ooops. At least it's not the Saturday night
Ooh that recipe looks nice.....I try to have something like a tray bake, loads of roasted fresh veg, the more variety the better, and perhaps chicken, roasted with the veg, quite simple, but with loads of garlic and herbs too, and lots of hydration.......yum, yum...I picked up a recipe for oat energy/breakfast bars from a running mag supplement - I use them all the time now and make little changes of my own, like adding choc chips, glacรฉ cherries etc.,
I will be eating dusted cod or haddock with veg and a few chips. I am staying at a b&b close to gsr on Saturday night and have access to the kitchen so will be cooking my usual pre run meal. I am a creature of habit!
Haha. Now there's an idea. My 'list' starts whilring round my head as soon as I go to bed each night, it's still spinning when I wake up in the middle of the night, but is gone when I wake up again. That's not progress! On the other hand, making a list now is just toooo real. Not sure I'm quite ready for that
My parents are coming down for the weekend to watch me finish. We are having Italian on Saturday night. I will also have lots of fruit the day before and iron rich veggies (I am disposed to anaemia).
My problem is mornings. My body decided to no longer accept my pre run shakes. Discovered that half way around the Windsor 10km. May go porridge x
Not surprising if youโve had all manner of stuff in the way round I was like a dustbin, stuffing everything in, mostly flapjack and choc brownies for 26 Miles โบ๏ธ
Red hot fish n chips though. I might get that as an option this year as I hope we are decamping to the nearest pub. Itโs by the sea ๐ ๐ ๐
Speaking of half marathon weekend, I jogged into town last night to collect my race number etc. I got the official tee shirt but itโs mahoosive. It seems they are just one size Itโs white and red ๐ฌ. Nah ๐
