Tonight I’m plucking up the courage to join my local running club. I feel I need others around me to push myself and it’ll also be nice to have some company as I’ve always run alone up to now. Question is what do I wear?? It’s supposed to be around 12 degrees at 7pm?? Do I wear a long sleeve top or will a short sleeve t shirt be ok? I know I’ll warm up while running!!

I always use ambient temperature + 10 degrees as the temp to dress for. i.e. a bit chilly for the first 1km but then comfortable.

Ok so I definitely overdressed lol!! I didn’t see your reply until I’d got home but safe to say I got a little warm! Decided on wearing my skins under a vest as it was really chilly - big mistake lol! Struggled to roll up the sleeves as we ran but I LOVED running in a group. 7.5k flew by!! This running lark is a big learning curve for me but it’s all good. We live and learn 👍😊

10 or above I wear short sleeves and shorts. Can be a bit chilly to start but soon warm up. I hate all the standing around at the start getting cold. Never run with a club but parkrun is terrible for keeping you waiting getting colder and colder and colder....hope your club get off to a sharp start!

Short sleeves and shorts would definitely have been the way to go this evening, rather than skins, capris and vest. I had a very warm run lol!

If you have a cool-down walk back home that may factor into your decision too, as that is when I feel it. During the sweaty cool-down and the walk home :). Our group has a starting base at a shop and you can store a jacket there while you do your run.

The club is based at the towns rugby club so the runs start and finish there. I will leave a jacket there in future 👍. The cool-down was a slower-paced jog, not a walk, so I didn’t notice the cool air until we stopped back at the club for our post-run stretches.

And congrats on deciding to join the club! Made a big difference for me!

Thank you! I wish I’d taken the plunge sooner. The time went by so quickly and I was amazed to have run 7.5k really comfortably!! It felt more like 5k 👍😊

I too have noticed how fast 10k will seem time-wise when runnibg with a buddy. A 30km lone jog seems to take an eternity (hold on, it IS almost an eternity in my case at 3 1/2 hrs!)
