It's on the faffage list!

Heyup, Happy New Year!

My first race of 2018 will be the MK Winter Half Marathon in February, and since it was postponed (due to the December snow) at the last minute, I have a pre-prepared FAFFAGE LIST* for it :D

I don't know who originally coined the term 'faffage list' but I love it... and them!

Something that misswobble said in Gabby08 's post from a few days ago about Half-Maranoia struck a chord with me. Adding TRAINING to the faffage list sounded like such a brilliant idea that I added it to my list forthwith! My only resolution for 2018 is that I can always tick training off my list as soon as I've written it.

I had last year's triathlon list in the transition area with me, it was great! Who else loves a good faffage list?

*I've blurred the list in the picture because some of the content is a tad embarrassing ;)

Excellent! I am going to make a faffage list this afternoon and the first item on it will be training. Then I’ll put a huge tick next to it before I continue to panic about all the other items!

But you don't have to worry because it's on the list! Unless you can't read your own handwriting :) Actually that's a problem for ME! Hmmm...

Ok, so far my faffage list looks like this:

Training ✅

Safety pins ✅

Race number ✅

Money for cake ✅

And now I’m faffing about what else I should faff about! My faffage knows no bounds! 🙈

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Gabby08

I think you have it covered, safety pins and money for cake are on there! My list is really long because it includes things like each item of clothing as a separate point, I micro-manage myself :D

Gabby08 profile image
Gabby08Half Marathon in reply to roseabi

Ooh, items of clothing! Yes, I should probably wear some stuff.

I’m now trying to decide whether ‘stuff to take’ and ‘stuff to do’ require to separate faffage lists. Also, is ‘paint nails’ a legitimate list item?!

Well, you have to be ready for those race photos...

I think poppypug was the original queen of faffage as I recall. Yes painting her nails was definitely on it!

Yes!!!

Gabby08 profile image

@poppypug, help! What else do I need on my faffage list?!

poppypug profile image

:-D :-D Nails definitely , and if you paint them to match your top , that’s even better ! :-)

Porridge 2 hours before start time . Banana one hour before . Race pack in the kitchen drawer with the tea towels ! :-)

An Imodium tablet on the morning of the race and electrolytes in your water bottle .

Good Luck ! :-) xxx

This sounds like an excellent faffage list - and with added timings too! My nails match my trainers - will that do?!

Imodium is a great idea! Had never thought of that before a race.

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Gabby08

Imodium is always on my list (or the cheap Tesco version anyway), plus Tena pads (not the Tesco version, hmmm) :D

Gabby08 profile image
Gabby08Half Marathon in reply to roseabi

Now there’s an idea I would never have thought of!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Gabby08

I personally do not like to stop for anything, especially the loo! Not that I have a huge leakage problem, but I do like to err on the side of caution in this case :)

Gabby08 profile image
Gabby08Half Marathon in reply to roseabi

I don’t like to stop either but so far haven’t had to run for long enough for it to be much of an issue. I imagine marathon training is another ball game!

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Gabby08

Oddly enough, the only difference I'm noticing (because yes I have made a spreadsheet :) ) is snacks. But even then, as Miss W said, it depends on the event. I took loads of food with me to the Beachy Head Marathon, and I didn't eat any of it except two jelly babies because they kept giving me food all day!

Gabby08 profile image

I’ve never been able to mange jelly babies when running. They just seem to become increasingly floury go round and round in my mouth! It’s a shame because I LOVE jelly babies!

Good Luck Gabby ! You can do this xxx

I really hope so! I’ll be thinking of you all! xxx

Titter at the embarrassing list 😊

Half mara to kick off the year. You don’t mess about do you 👍💪😃

I have a race this Sunday but no list at all. It’s local so I’m winging it 🏃‍♀️

Good luck 👍

My recent marathon - which meant an overnight stay away from home - nearly drove me mad with the faff-o-meter. I thought it would trip out on overload 🙄. Be ruthless with your gear or you will need rent a truck 😁

Thanks - good luck on Sunday!!

I sort of could do without that half marathon to be honest, but hey-ho...

Local races are definitely more relaxing :)

ps embarrassing... I just outed myself in the comments ha :D

They sure are! I much prefer them as I hate luggage and planning with equal measure. For my local half marathon I can walk to the start, run and walk home. Lovely jubbly 🙂

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

The second half of my year will be just local races, but I've got some travelling to do in the spring, so I shall be perfecting the art of faffage, and definitely will need to be ruthless!

Errrr i always have a list in my mind does that count?

(normally means i forget something bodyglide, contacts, sunglases etc)

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to benwill

There you go then, you need a faffage list! - Going forward I'm thinking spreadsheet...

benwill profile image
benwillMarathon in reply to roseabi

If i needed a list i would have made a list! Is it not a bit more exciting if you forget something. You against the elements against the world! will you let it conquer you no of course not! you win no matter how much your nipples are bleeding! (the time i forgot the bodyglide)

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to benwill

I don't need that much excitement :)

You never know you might like it!

Isn't 'winging it' sort of cheating for a running event?

benwill profile image
benwillMarathon in reply to GoogleMe

Oh does that mean i have to give all my medals back? next your tell me I have to train, stretch and use a foam roller.

I had a second set of gear based on what-if scenario because of the cold weather. A stupid idea if ever there was one. I was constantly packing, repacking, unpacking like an idiot. I drove myself mad. Then there was the snacks 😫😱😤😳🤔. After all that, the ruddy food was laid on! 😁.

It’s all about the running, not peripheral crap. Stick to bare essentials. It’s especially true if you are carting this stuff in a back pack. Even if you aren’t it’s a good idea to limit it to what you can get in one
