Can I ask how many times a week people run when they are training for a marathon?

Depends on the plan. Most will be 5, some 6.

Thanks Rignold - it feels like hard going sometimes!

I did not enjoy it at all, to be honest. In fact, although this is probably sacrilegious to admit here, but I don't enjoy structured running plans at all. I dont mind the mileage, its the restrictiveness and rigidity that gets me.

I agree! I am trying to stick to the plan as best I can because it is my first one and I want to do it right but it is tough!

Three! I keep that fluid depending on how I am feeling. It could be four if things were going well

It was five days in a row last week but that was exceptional owing to being snowed under with dogs and kids etc, and playing catch up

I would recommend three I follow myasics easy (ha!) plan based on three runs a week. I am very nearly 60 so have to be realistic 🙂🏃‍♀️✔️👍

I'm doing four a week.

I mostly do four. Occasionally five. sometimes only three when life gets in the way. My homegrown plan calls for four.

I'm doing 6 most weeks, occasionally 5 and even more occasionally 7! I am rubbish at sticking to training plans. I just use them as a guideline.

Good lord! Are you not exhausted! :)

After 3 weeks of my highest mileages yet, yes!! Not all the runs are hard though, I usually do a couple of 5k runs at a very easy pace as recovery runs. I've found that these really help reduce stiffness and aches after a long or hard run.

I did four when I am trained for my first, 2 slow 5 km's and one fast 8 or 12km run and then a slow long run. I did ok, for my upcoming marathon I have no training plan other than whats in my head!

I try to run 3 times a week, sometimes I skip two days if I feel I need it and don't beat myself up about it. I've only been running for 4 months now, so I'm still new and need to build up strength and yet more discipline.

I think a proper worked out plan is good because you don't over run.

Don't run any more than you need to! 🙂

I like a plan because if I wake up feeling a bit meh but I know I've got something planned, I'll probably get up and do it :)

When I did my first I didn't follow a plan but recorded what I did do to see what I did as plans are so hard to stick to:

I wrote about it here which may be helpful for you?

It depends what you want to achieve but Galloway is just 3 runs a week and I have known people who did this and did extremely well.... keep us posted on how you are doing so we can support you.

I'm slightly dreading the VLM ballot results in October. I always enter, with about as much epectation of success as buying a lottery ticket. But Sod's law will be that I will get a place this year and have to find a way of training for marathon, more or less from scratch, On top of my existing training, which have to do at stupid o clock already. Although I could try that method that involves no distance runs at all.

I didn't bother to enter as after 3 fails I gave up!!!
