How long have you had to wait for vitrectomy surgery?

My journey started in January with a referral to the hospital following a check with my optician.

Fast forward to now and although I’ve had pre operative tests at Blackpool RVH on 29th August, I’m not able to find out where I am on the waiting list.

I’ve been told to contact the “Ophthalmic Surgical Unit waiting list number” only to get a voicemail that the gentleman running this surgeon’s appointments list was on annual leave until 18th September.

IT did give an alternative number, but when contacted I was advised this person did not have any access to the surgeons waiting list but could only contact the patient as directed by the surgeon.

After already having had an ophthalmic out patient appointment cancelled due to the doctors strikes I’m not holding my breath.

I had one 10 days after needing a vitrectomy. I had a cataract op that had problems and they could not put the new lens in. I was put on drops and 10 days late had the.vitrectomy to remove parts of the cataract that had fallen behind my eye and put the new lens in. It was very good treatment and lasted just over an hour.

I hope you don’t have to wait much longer

Can the Macular Society help? Or can they recommend another Society who can help? Have you tried telling your plight to the local press?
