Eyelea injections
I have 8 weekly injections for macular oedema and have had no problems with Eylea
I find the hardest part is waiting for the review from the opthamologist. Every other part of the appointment goes quickly but waiting for the review can be half an hour or so. Also not seeing the same opthamologist each time is not easy.I prefer to have a lady injector but always ask for plenty of the anaesthetising drops so that I do not feel it at all. Also I make sure the eye is washed out well after. One more thing I find helpful is to have the assistant on side. She will often give me extra drops.
I have been having 4 weekly Eyelea injections for Diabetic Macular Oedema but this had followed on from regular Lucentis injections over several years. Personally I have never actually got used to the injections and still get as tense as I did at the beginning. At my Eye Unit the injections are usually done by a Specialist Nurse so I only see a Doctor at the start of a sequence of injections and then a review at the end although sometimes there is a delay on the review because the switch from Injection Clinic to general Clinic listing does not always happen smoothly.Alun
I suffered a lot too like lots of people. One time my cornea was scratched and it was agony. I complained to PALS and have to say I am treated much better now. What causes the pain afterwards is the iodine. My last injection was done by a Chinese nurse. I felt nothing and more to the point I had no pain whatsoever afterwards due to no iodine.
I think a lot of it is physcological. If we have a bad experience we dread and fear this assault on our basic sence s. It feels so intimidating and frightening and some staff are simply dreadful.
It helped me to stand up and say this now not right. I made it clear the many elderly people suffer in silence as they are stoic and non complaining.
My advice is complain and make a fuss !
All the best to you. It will get better.
I have four weekly injections but alternate with Avastun and Eyelea . I’ve had several severe reactions although none lately. I am intolerant of iodine so have chlorhexidine instead and I sometimes have to fight not to have iodine which is stressful. I don’t have a problem with the actual injection but am always very nervous when the clamp thing goes on as I’ve been scratched before causing mega pain. I don’t like the mask either. I find not getting the next injection appointment on the day very annoying too.
What is it you are struggling with?
Just getting used to it. Unfortunately I was given no notes after my first, nor any warning re red eye. Eye white and yellow now but not infected thats 10 days afterwards.
